Sub Enclosure Question?

I am looking to changing out my old factory stero system. I am looking to replace the old Kicker sub and factory enclosure with new wetsounds XS-12 sub powered by Wetsounds SYN 1 amp. I have a SV211 Limited so the sub is located in the under passenger seat compartment. A question I have is: What would be the best eclosure to put the sub in, Bass-Reflex, Ported, or sealed? I am not looking for a heavy thump from the sub, but the best in the low end. I would prefer repalcing the location of the sub to the area under the drivers foot area., But on this SV 211 the circuit breaker panel is there and would have to be relocated. I have seen a few 211's that have a cooler door in the walk tru, port side, mine does not. Then my next questions is any suggestions on ways to vent the area for improvemnt for the sub sound? I looking at going with total Wetsounds system.

1 SYN 4 Tower Speakers (Double Up, 1pair MB 8,1 Pair PRO 60)
1 SYN 4 In-Boat Spearkers (3 pair XS-650's)

The syn 1 is too much for the xs-12. You would be better using a syn two bridged mono on that sub at 750 watts. The xs-xxx is better suited for the syn 1. I know as I just did a xs-xxx with a syn 1 and it absolutely pounds. I actually am running the syn 1 at 4 ohms-850 watts instead of the 1 ohm-1000 watts and still freaking pounds the xxx.

Where do you have the XXX sub mounted in your boat? What type of enclosure?

All true what bchesley said about the best power fit.

Ported (ie:bass-reflex) will yield considerably more output over sealed and can also deliver good sound quality with the correct alignment. We also have pre-built marine-specific waterproof enclosures.

David, Thanks for the additional information. Do you have this same vent setup that will go into a 2004 SV211 as in the example. Would you recommend going to the wetsound xxx sub instead of the xs-12 matched to the syn 1? In what type of configuration?

I have mine below the helm. It hits so hard that a pair of pliers will vibrate across the floor with the XXX. I am not quite finished with the install. I have a carpeted trim piece to add on each side to hide the hoses. See below.

i dont recomend the double up setup. i have it and i would much rather have two set of pro 60s. you will not hear the mb-8s behind the boat. if you are trying to get the mrider to hear your music then go with the pro 60s

Cam, How do the MB-8's sound within the boat. I am looking for in the middle quailty sound. I need the rider to be able to feel the sound at 65 to 70 off, but sound best in or around the boat. I am looking more for clarity and crisp than volume, what are other trade off's.

Mad. XS-XXX versus XS-12 really depends on just how much bass you are after. The XS-12 in a ported box hits very hard. The XS-XXX in the slot loaded box will kill fish!! Not sure if that helps. But if you are wanting some solid low end. The XS-12 with a SYN-2 is perfect. If you want a ton of bass, the XS-XXX with the SYN-1

Also, as far as the towers go. We have a NEW MB-8. It is a redesigned crossover and beefier driver that let's the driver play onto the upper end and gets more output. The original design of the MB-8 was an add on speaker for those that want a lot of punch for a surfing system and party cove system. And it was perfect for that but did not have the output at 80 feet as it was not designed to

The new MB-8 has a lot more output and since it rolls off on the high end. It will add to the volume at 80 feet. So it is a better blend of lots of tight punch at surf and party cove distances and also volume at the rider.

For what you are after. The Double Up is the ticket.

Also, we have redesigned the PRO 60's and PRO 80's as well. They both have improved drivers and crossovers. Both offering more mid bass and volume. So the new Double Up system is an amazing package.

If you already have a SYN 1 amp then you might want to upgrade to the XXX. But don't shy away from the XS-12 which is lower mass and much easier to drive with less power, as in a SYN 2 bridged.

If you can justify the size of the MB8 then why not run two pair of Pro80s off a SYN 2. If you'll be running an EQ then you can adjust independently for both long range projection and short range sound quality. Or, run a pair of Pro485s (the very best WetSounds in many respects) off a bridged SYN 4. Other than size, this is the package without trade-offs.

if you are looking to get great sound in your boat you need great speakers and quality amplification in the boat. i myself chose to take a path less traveled on this forum and used Boston Pro series componets in my boat because i have used them on many cars that i have installed in. Then have a huge range and i have yet to over power them or make them distort running about 100w to each speaker. I dont have any experience with the wetsounds coaxials but from what i read they are also very clean. i would not go with the polks that many on this forum use because they all seem to have the same problem.(blown Tweeters) when any serious power is put to them. As for the MB-8s i stand behind what i said earlier. The mid bass that you are looking for will not carry to the rider and honestly i dont think they are that great sounding even in the boat, because if you have to stand up to hear them more than likely you will be getting your ears shedded buy the pro 60s. So IMO i would go with some great sounding powerfull cabin speakers ( JL, BOSTON, WETSOUNDS, HERTZ) if you are looking for super clean interior sound, and two sets of pro 60s with a WS420 so you can tune them in sepratley.
