Trying to get some Stereo Help!

I have a 1989 SN 2001. This past summer I ran a Wetsounds SYN2 amp pushing 4 Wetsounds Pro 80s. It worked awesome all summer with no problems. I have an Optima D34 running off a Perko switch with my starting battery.

I am unsure of the size of my alternator. I am fairly positive that the manual says 55amp but I have never had it bench tested.

I just bought 4 polk DB651 for in the boat and plan on powering them with a Wetsounds SYN 6 as well as a Wetsounds XS-12 Sub. This seems like the best way to not have 3 amps freeing up the very limited space in these boats!

Should I be concerned about enough power or if my Alternator is going to crap out??

Its gonna struggle to keep up for sure. I had a 55amp in my boat with about 1000 watts and it would barely keep up. I ended up buying the 100 amp upgrade that PCM has and it was much better. I have just about maxed out the 100 amp alternator though as I now have 2400 watts of stereo. It pulls the volts prett low while I have it cranked.

How much was the alternator upgrade? I would rather upgrade prior to it crapping out, the floatin off to sea haha

I'm very interested as well on the cost. Also is it much bigger? I'm concerned about it fitting with my engine box.

Also Delmage how extensive of a project is it to wire in another battery with the perko switch?

It wasnt hard at all! Just have to make sure your wiring is correct...Definately a nice peace of mind when you are out on the water too!

The Optima is sitting in behind that Amp in a battery holder.
