    Which Tower Speaker Set Up?

    Hey Guys,

    First Post here.
We have a 2006 210 which we run 6 Polk Momo speaker that were standard with the boat and a 10" sub. We have the Standard amp and have also added an extra Kenwood Amp for the Sub.

We are looking to put a set of tower speakers on the boat but i was unsure of which path to go down. I Have seen a bit of the Bullet HollowPoint speakers but dont know much about them? We have a reasonable budget of about $1500-2000 including amplifier if we need an extra one. We would also obviously like to hear it at about at least 70" riding.

    skip9,

There's no question that you'll hear two pair of HollowPoint 770 HLCDs at 70 feet. That's easy. Just check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWv-39ftIZo

Two pair of 770 HLCDs with twin monoblock tower amplifiers (the identical set-up shown in the video) is definitely within your budget. Considering all the extra construction qualities, like spun-aluminum pods, domestic finishing and tower-specific machined collars, this package is a hard value to beat.

If you will spend as much as $2k then two wetsounds pro485's cant be beat. You just need to power them correctly to get all they can offer.

Wow. That's empressive. How much do they cost? Could you get by with just 2? Do they really just launch the sound out there? How sound is it in boat, like can you talk without yelling?

I actually had a buddy tell me to turn the music down while riding. We ride at 75-80' feet back and it is ridiculously loud at the end of the line. I have 400 watts to each 485.

Ya I'm curious about these speaker as well. I have never heard of them until now, but I'm curious how it compares to other HLCD speakers. Price seems very comparable, so would a pair of the Bullets or a single wetsounds pro 485 be the better choice if i want to hear the music when i ride but not break the bank.

                skip9,

I was staying on topic but as long as the comparisons have been raised, I don't mind offering up a few specifics.

I strongly recommend a package that has two pair of midbass drivers and the appropriate power if your concern is listening at wakeboarding range in motion. Personally, I like the ability to run everything conservatively, without a hint of compression, and still have the power to easily reach 70 or 80 feet.

The Boston Acoustics amplifier is a good product. We prefer twin JL Audio monoblocks that run $100.00 less in either a single or two pair of speakers package. And, the dual monoblocks are roughly the equivalent size as the Boston stereo amplifier. Either way you're in good shape.

The Bullet HollowPoint 770 HLCDs represent the most powerful HLCD in a compact package. The video bears this out. And, at $800.00 a pair they feature 7.7-inch midbass drivers while other offerings feature 6.75-inch drivers at a slightly higher cost. As mentioned previously, the aluminum pods, finishing and tower-specific collars are all domestic products of the highest quality.

Comparing the HollowPoint 770s and the WetSounds Pro485s is not apples to apples. The Pro485s dwarf the 770s in size. They're more expensive and they're more expensive to optimally power. But if you want the king of the hill; I believe the Pro485s stand alone in their own price/size category. As a dealer we try and stay on top of all the newest and competing products. We've auditioned a few contenders in this top arena. While some of the players do one or two spectacular things, when you consider the overall product, the Pro485s have not been knocked off their perch.

Kevin, pertaining to your question in the other thread on the 485 housings... If you inspected them inside and out and analyzed them as we have, you would have zero concerns. This is a very refined product.

Fortunately, wakeboarders have several excellent choices depending on their budget and individual preferences. Everyone will strongly recommend what they own even when they might not be familiar with another product. But that tells you they're happy with their own selection and that their product has been free of issues. You can't go wrong either way.
