    Underseat venting for sub

    Ryan,

I used to use a rolled up towel or life jacket to prop up my seat alittle too, but it makes it awkward for someone to sit there and it puts alittle stress on the hinge if someone does sit there.. You'll want it up higher than an inch also.. I put one vent in the walkway and another down by the passengers feet.

    nautiques4life,

I bought the white vents from WestMarine.com.. I didn't want to use fabric incase I put something in the net pocket in the walkway that would tear it and with all the air the sub pushes, I thought it would get dusty and dirty pretty fast. But Seth's install looks great tho!

    http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...classNum=12408

I didn't take any pictures afterwards but I'll be back out to my boat this next weekend to work on a new project for her that I can take afew pictures and let you see the end result.

Did my vent today; found a vent at west marine also (saw your reply right after I got home with it thanks). Project completed in one day, really happy with the result. I run the same polk 10 with the same ported encolsure, I have mine rotated so it faces right towards the vent, huge improvement. My only complaint is that the vent sticks out maybe a 1/2 inch, in an ideal world I think a flush mounted vent would have been more ideal, but they didn't have one at west marine and I was too impatient to wait for one to be shipped from online. I figure once I put my observer's seat back no one will ever see it. Thanks everyone, great improvement for a 05 210 once you've built the PN recommended sub enclosure. Included shots just incase anyone's curious... dont expect too much... they're from my phone.

I like your venting ideas... but unfortunately I dont think just those two vents will be enough, I will still need to prop the seat up.... I'm running a considerably larger sub and enclosure under the seat.

What did you use to cut this vent?

I drilled pilot holes in two corners diagonal from each other and then used a jigsaw to cut the whole thing out. I had my dad hold a shop vac up to it while I was cutting to catch all the fiberglass..

I don't doubt at all that Ryan's running different/more/bigger subs; but I will say that as for my enclosure the one vent is working great, debating now wether I need the second one under the seat. I am running the stock polk momo 10" with the ported box (which is awesome that a bunch of ppl built (see bass rehab thread)), and I have mine facing towards driver. Used to have all kinds of vibration in fiberglass, now it's nice and solid. Stole this video from andyray to show everyone what it looked like before, mine pretty much looked like it, now nothing, although if I put my hand to the vent air is moving pretty good, so I'm wondering if I'm not still choking the bass off a little.

I hope my vent is big enough. It is at least a 1' x 1' hole.

                  Nautiques4life,

Play your stereo and then crack the seat up just abit and see if you can hear a difference and feel any air coming out from under the seat.. If so, I'd vent under there too. You may be fine since your box is facing right out that vent.. I had no other option with making room for amps that I had to face it back towards the back of the boat.. With both vents, if I crack my seat i can BARELY tell a difference.

1 kicker 15 in a ported box under the passenger seat... and 2 13w3's in a customer box behind the driver seat.

Might want to save your money and just invest in some nice Shure headphones. Noticed in the picture your boat is on Lake Austin. That's the lake I have been enjoying for many years. I remember the first set of car speakers a couple of us dropped into PVC tubes and clamped to our towers. We were some of the only few people that had towers, let alone speakers on them. The first day someone complained about the music, I knew this day would come for Lake Austin.

But, here ya go. This new law just passed in November. Basically, a cove party killer. But, since houses are so close to the shore you can expect complaints everywhere now that they have a legal complaint and the police will have a law to enforce. Gotta love Austin...we will have so many laws pretty soon you will just have to stay in your house to keep from getting a ticket or thrown in jail. I am sure open container will be next. Welcome to the USSR.

What do they mean "cause a vibration within 100 feet"? If I whisper it will cause a vibration 100 ft. away and beyond. You might not hear it, but it will cause a vibration. Do they mean physically move solid objects?

Who knows what the intent of that phrase truly is?? Usually, these laws are written and pushed by people who have no real life experience with the factors involved. Or, even use the areas. They just instantly react to complaints and try a quick fix. Very similar to the growing disappearance of off road areas and parks due to some politicians listening to the tree huggers that believe walking in them destroys the land. Ahhhh....then what are they for?? Sometimes, I think people forget this world will be here long after it shakes us off like fleas.

I am sure we won't know the true impact of this new law until the summer is in full swing and we start hearing the stories or dealing with the authorities. Sad.

I guess I am just old school. The lake and boaters were here long before the newer houses and they knew what they were getting into when they wanted to live on a public lake. If I moved next to a concert arena I shouldn't be able to ask them to stop having events. A lawmaker should just say, "What did you expect?".

Guess I will get off my soap box now. Not trying to hijack the post.
