besides the fact that "non marine amps" arent supposed to get wet is there any other reason I should not install one in my boat

Its not just getting wet that is a problem. COndenstation will cause non-marine equipment to rust or short fairly quickly. It doesnt matter where these components are placed in a boat, there is always condensationEric, Phoenix AZ

I keep Damp Rid in the AMPS compartment. I've had standard JL audit amps for years without issues.
Keep your boat well vented.

thanks for the info i think i am just going to go with the regular amp, since it is free if something happens then i guess i will worry about it when that time comes.as for condensation i could probably just take the amp out of the boat in the winter time since we never use it then as i dont see that much condesation issues happening in the summer here in norcal.

Amps
Yep - I have a kicker 850.4 on tower speakers and a kicker 700.1 on the sub - both are under the passenger/lookout seating area on a 210. I am in central Florida where, the last time I checked, we have humidity!! Amps are in perfect condition with visual internal inspection after several years of use.2006 SANTE 210 (Pending Sale)

It is not just the fear of water getting to the amp that is an issue. It is the moisture. If you have seen a computer circuit board they are affected by just being damp. It causes corrision that creates shorts. In a MARINE amp the circuit board is dipped in a meterial called conformal coating which is for lack of a better term is like a candy apple type of material. This coating protects the amp from moisture.

Prostar, that was my impression
However, the stereo guys I talked to today were all stoked on the new JL audio XD amp line. I guess they are small and extremely efficient. I would be interested if anybody has any experience with these.Eric, Phoenix AZ
