Basic amp and sub add-on for 2006 206 LE

What is the best plan to upgrade a stock system on a 206 Limited Edition? I have the CMD4 head unit, no amp, 4 polk momo speakers (not sure which model), and no sub. I mostly slalom so don't need anything on the tower. Just looking for something that I can hear well while driving and some good quality sound between sets. I think I just need an amp and sub unless that's a bad idea. I'd prefer not to get into the expense of replacing the existing 4 speakers unless they can't handle any more.

I'm looking for the easy and compact install to be honest. I want to save as much space as I can under the observer side for storage. Is a kicker SKM10 a good option for me? Seems like an easy install and it looks like it might be able to fit up high on the inside of the center side panel and still have room for good storage under there.

Does anyone know the model of the stock polk momo speakers and their power rating? What amp would be best to take the best advantage of the existing speakers without overpowering them? Can I use the same amp for the sub and the speakers?

Really appreciate any input. I'm clueless.

The SkM10 paired with the ZXM700.5 amp is the perfect setup for both powering the 4 in-boats and adding some bass. The one thing I would suggest is to not locate the sub in an enclosed compartment. It really muffles and chokes the output of the sub, and I think you would be disappointed in the setup.

Thanks! Great. That amp looks perfect. Good recommendation. Also good to confirm the sub would be a good option too. On sub location, I was worried about the same thing but then I looked at some of the other installs on this site and it seems most subs are put under the observer side. There is some descent air space between the side of the observer seat and the outside wall of the boat, but maybe that's not enough? I figure I could open the bow cushion if I want to let it out more. I'm sure it would be better out in the open, but that's not too practical for me. Maybe I'll just test it out in the different places to compare before I mount, or would you recommend another spot that's relatively hidden? I thought about the driver side, but I have a heater so figured it was pretty jammed there.

        HogDog,

I wish I was more familiar with your boat so I could help more with sub placement. Opening the storage door will make a huge difference in the subs output, as far as what you hear. Another option would be the Kicker CVR104. It will run in an infinite-baffle sub configuration, so not need for an enclosure. With the dual 4-ohm voice coils, it will be a 2ohm load at the amp, this would net 420 watts rms to the sub. All you need is a complete wall/surface to mount it through so that the front a rear are acoustically separated.

My 05' 206 was factory equipped with an amp, it was screwed to a factory installed backer board which was mounted to the hull behind the observers seat, if they add them to all the 206 hulls you should be able to feel it behind the carpet, starts just above the floor and runs up +/- 24" from there. I have both my amps mounted there and it works out great as they are not in the way at all. My factory sub is in a box against the walk thru wall under the observers seat, have seen where others have added/moved the sub to the drivers kick panel. Was not able to move mine there as my heater is back there and it looks like it would be too tight.

Just put my kicker zxm700.5 with skm10 in and frickin love it. I was able to hang the sub upsidedown under the observer dash and keep good space for ski storage on the floor. It just fit perfectly. There's plenty of airflow between the hull and the seat so the sound is hardely any different with seat open or closed. I found the backer boards too and put the amp right there. Got it all for about $500 which is the cheapest upgrade I imagine is out there for the quality. Sound is incredible and easily heard while running. The sub rocks. I'm sure it's nothing compared to what a lot of folks have done but for a slalom guy that wanted sone good tunes while cruising it's perfect. Thanks for the great recommendations.

This sounds perfect. I have a 2004 SN 206 that I am trying to solve the same issues with. How did you 'hang' the sub?

Here are pics of how I hung the sub and where I installed the amp.
