    Sound system ideas

I am the new owner of a 2002 super sport which i am converting into a SAN. So far i have the parts ordered for the tower and the ballast systems (thank you Ian at onlyinboards), and am nowe looking at sound system ideas. the system currently installed is all stock so I am starting at ground zero. For the tower I have purchased four S7HD tower speakers from Samson. As for the head unit, it is the Clarion unit which came witht he boat I believe. I am interested in which amps, subs and boat speakers people have had good success with. Since I am a newbie at all things audio, I also need to know how many amps/types/single or multi-channel etc. Also, where is a good place to locate them, same with subs etc. I appreciate all help ideas and instructions.
    Eric
PS Are most people using multiple battery setups with the degree of power required for the sound systems and ballasts? were is the most logical place to place a multibank set up?

I just finished my stereo install on my 01 SAN. I just wanted something simple that sounded good in the boat. I didn’t do tower speakers, cause if youre riding youre having more fun than anybody in the boat anyway! I went with Kenwood because it was cheap and seems to be pretty good stuff. I replaced interior speakers with Polk DB651’s and front mounted them. Those are hooked up to a Kenwood 8404. I have a Kenwood 3012 12” sub under the clam shell in a sealed 1.25cf box I am in the process of building. The sub is running off a Kenwood 8104D. I have 2 batteries (one on each side) mounted on the shelf behind the rear seat in the rear storage compartments. I have a Surepower 1314 separating those. Amps are mounted up on the passenger side wall. I made L brackets for the amp rack and mounted it to the cleat that was already there and screwed another L bracket into the floor on the bottom of the rack because I was afraid of putting a screw through the hull. Ill be at my boat this weekend and take a bunch of pictures of everything.

      Ers906,

Check the Stereos forum. I have mine listed out there and CHattywake has a similar system. Actually he had his first, so I have the similar system.

There is also lots of great pics and setups. You might have to go back a couple months, because people are just getting their boats out and upgrading.

Personally you can't go wrong with WETSOUND equipment and check out Earmark Audio. David is on this forum and does a great job of supporting us.

        Seth,
I'll be interested in some pics. I'm fixing to replace the head unit on my 01 SAN as well as mount the amps and do the interior speakers.

I plan on purchasing most of the components from David at Earmark. We have emailed back and forth a bit. I would loved to have done WetSounds tower speakers but the ones I wanted may have broken the bank a bit. Plus I think I am the only person in the world who pays cash and has no credit cards. Sometimes a good thing, sometimes leaves me to buy the next step down. But no debt other than my house (thankfully not upside down on that) and my education (if Obama raises the tax bracket my Federal Student loans are going to be the first ones I default on, that will show him [I wish]). Would loved to have bought a newer SAN, but once again, cash is king

So it pushes air out the vent, and you can hear it and feel it better.

Can the open area by the Gullwing seat also double as the vent for the sub? On my boat it is about 18" x 6". Depending on where I mount the sub (eiter on the port side wall or the inside of the walkthrough under the gullwing seat) I should have enough venting I would imagine. I am using the new alpine sub (I believe 12") inthe OEM Nautique sub enclosure made for the newer 220 models
