Changing out Clarion Oval Dash Remote?

I am wanting to change the head unit in my 2004 SANTE 210 to an Alpine unit. How easy is it to change out the dash remote to an Alpine one? I'd like the install to look factory as much as possible. Anyone successfully changed out there oval Clarion dash remote to a different style round one? Anyone have any pictures of some installs?

im in the same boat with my 03 SANTE and have been dying to know what others have done when changing out their deck, relative to the wired remote? i have a xmd1 or 2, dont know which, with the round wired remote ... want to change out to a new sony deck which has a round remote also, but is a little bigger i think. would love to hear what my options are with the remote on the dash ... ???

The Clarion CMD4 and CMD5 head-unit will work with your current remotes. If you are changing brands all together to Sony, their RMX60 remotes need a 3.25" hole and have a 4" outer diameter. Sony does offer a non-digital remote that is smaller. The RMX-11 needs a 2" hole and has a 2.5 OD.

would consider the CMD5 if my remote would in fact function with it ... crutchfield lists it as discontinued, know of any other sources? could check ebay i guess ... would love to go with a sony but dont know if i could mod my existing faceplate to accomodate that bigger remote, or where i could get one made?

I want "pause" on the new remotes. Can I swap out the oval remote holder/trim piece on the dash with the trim piece for the round remote?

have read on other threads that nautique makes a replacement faceplate for the new round, bigger clarion remotes ... thought about calling a dealer to see how much they are, or if they even have such a thing

I just bought a new round hole dash insert for my '07LE, just call Wes at White Lake and he'll set you up. I like my current round remote, I just don't like the stickers around it. I scratched up the original trying to remove them, so for $40, I simply bought a new one. Tap the 6 holes with a #8 and fill with chrome button hex screws, and it's a sharp look.
