    Amp/Stereo help needed stat

Out at the lake with no tower audio, im a retard... please help. Dunno what happened, I'm thinking amp is bad or something but looking for insight from all you pros out there. Tower speakers are turning on and off randomly at will, thought maybe bad connection as it was rough today so I just unplugged audio inputs so that I didnt have to listen to audio popping on and off- when I unplugged I noticed the blue power light was flashing on and off randomly so I put my head to the speakers and noticed they were turning off and on at the same as the blue power light. I'm running stock defcon IV (4 polk momos) with the larger of the 2 stock clarion amps that came from nautiques 2005 SANTE I think its a 480 (if its important i can go look). Also the cabin is running just fine no cutting out and the power light is staying illuminated. Sub's amp also illuminated and sounding fine... all get power from the same distribution block and all wires are connected and tight so beacuse the others are working i assume power in is good. About to take a mulitmeter to check if i'm getting enough power to amp, unless someone knows that the flashing power means amp is bad or that something else is wrong... ie a gain setting and over heating or something cause I messed with all the knobs earlier tonight.

Thanks in advance for any help, especially quick responses, cause im at the lake now and once i go home sunday wont have access to the boat, thanks again everyone.

    Check the Tower wires

Are the tower wires crimped or rubbing against the tower where they enter the tubing? Has the insulation cracked or worn causing a short? Are all the connections tight? Those are the easy ones that come to mind

oh man, that sounds like a lot of work, bummer, I know all the connections are good, don't know about cracked insulation or shorting within the tower. I was really hoping to hear, "yep bad amp buy a new one." Re-running all the wires through the tower doesn't sound like a very fun afternoon, but it'd be a lot cheaper than a new amp. thanks rick

Before you go out and rerun the entire tower run some mock up wires. You don’t have to go through the tower on your first run. IMO I would first check the power leads at the amp if the power on the amp (blue light) is turning on and off and you are getting a power pop from you speakers. If it were speaker wire insulation you would be getting a ton of continuous static. don’t forget this is very early spring and all you amp connections under your seats have had a few months of climate change and condensation so some corrosion may have built up. You may have toasted an amp but it sounds more like a dirty or loose connection at the amp to me. Check both ends of the power wires they have a way of wiggling themselves loose over the winter. good luck

Thanks Cam, the mock up idea is genious, don't know why I didn't think of it, but you saved me a ton of time.
