    speaker/amp setup - need help

    Howdy all.

I have a couple of questions about setting up my speakers in my boat. I have the tower speakers covered, so I'm looking for some advice on the inboat speakers and sub.

    Here's the info:

I have a 2008 SANTE 230 with the 6 in boat polk speakers and the 1 polk 10 inch sub in the fiberglass enclosure (all these are stock - not sure on the model #'s or specs).

I have a Clarion APX 480 M Amp hooked up similar to the attached picture where each letter represents 1 set of colored wires. It looks like only 2 channels are being used. I'm assuming, although I didn't trace the wires back, that the bottom row of connections is powering all 6 of the in boat speakers and the top row is powering the sub.

It seems like I need more power to the 10 inch sub, so I'd like to use this clarion amp that I have for the inboat speakers and get another amp to power the sub.

I also have a WS-420 that I just got that I want to hook up, so I'm thinking that 3 amps (1 for the tower (which I have), 1 for the inboats, and 1 for the sub would work great)

    1. Anyone know of a good configuration to use on this amp for the inboat speakers....Is there a configuration I can do using this amp for the inboats that would power them adequately.

    2. what does everyone suggest as a good amp to power the sub?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

      Tro,

You have 6 in boat speakers stock on your 230. Correct craft does a terrible job on the amp speaker instalation. The bow speakers are only powered by the head unit. The others by the amp. I ripped both of my clarion amps and replaced them both with 2 wetsound syn6's. I also added the ws-420. The sound was night and day. Go talk to Tom over at Texas Stereo. He is a good dude and does great work. He does all of Daryl Moore's custom work. Good luck!

I ran the 480 to all 6 interior speakers.. Then ran the sub to the 280.. Then bought a Kicker 850 to run both my Pro485's.. You really need to build another sub box too! Night and day difference on all accounts.. And if your gonna be chillin alot without the engine running, you may want to address your battery setup as well.

yah, i'm looking into getting 2 batteries for the stereo that aren't connected to the alternator and charging them with an onboard charger when i'm on shore. might go with XS or kinetic for those 2 batteries.

i currently have 2 batteries that have 850 CCA which are on a perko switch. i believe both of those are starting batteries, but i haven't had a problem running my radio a lot when not running the engine. i think adding another amp might change that.
