    JL SPeakers Sub and tower

I have six JL speaker in the walls of my 2006 SANTE and I like them. Has anyone put the 6.5" in the Defcon II cans? Also has anyone installed their enclosed sub woofer under the steering wheel?

I would give David at Earmark a call or maybe he'll reply to your thread. He was a ton of help with my sub/amp upgrade and I got great prices from him. He gives experienced and honest advice. I just upgraded to a JL G1700 amp, 12w3v2 2 ohm sub and dual yellow top Optimas. I might get some pictures up soon of my install. Its simple but ample and I didn't have thousands to spend.

      sjames,

Frankly, my personal favorite sound quality coaxial for the coaming is the JL Audio marine coaxials. However, I do not recommend these for the tower if projection at wakeboarding range is the objective. It would help to know a little more about how you use your tower speakers normally.

That is a really good sounding subwoofer. Check the dimensions to see if it fits the cavity. If not, we can build a custom box for the same driver.

Thanks guys. I am hoping my local dealer that does my installs here in CA can fit the sub up under the drivers seat. Looks like it will fit dimensionally. Maybe with a custom bracket or two.

It's a family boat but I like nice stuff so I want the tower cans to match the JL's in the boat and sound good. The stock Nautique cans have Skylons which are ok but I am hoping the JL's are a step up?

I also want to mount the amps up higher in the observer locker on a plastic board with standoffs for better airflow and keep them out of any water. Is there a cool mount for that?

I also upgraded to the blue top Optimas and got the WS420 today I am trying to figure out if I can mount the WS420 near the throttle through the wall(like this photo of a newer 230 I think)? Or some place other than under the wheel where I will rack my knees on it?

now I just need sun and water in the lakes here in Cali......

Some pics of what I have now are attached.

i have my ws-420 mounted under the left side of the steering wheel and i thought i might hit my knees on it, but they don't even come close at any point. seat up or down. but i'm lazy and didn't want to flush mount it or cut a hole in my boat. ha ha.

I just bought a wetsounds XS-12 sub. Going to power witha JL slash 500/1 amp. Going to build a small box for under the gull wing seat where the stock sub was. I only have the tower and boat speakers done so far. The WS420 wired up.

I wanted to save space as well. I had two 15" subs back in the engine compartment, but new ballast system was more important. Since, storage space is at a premium in my 1999 Super Sport. I put a Wetsounds XS-12 in an audioformz box under my dash. It is powered by a JL Audio Slash 500/1.

skiking: where did you get that box? is audioformz the brand name? i'd really like to get a box instead of making one, but i'm sure it will sound better if i make it to specs. how does your sound in that box? (since you're running the same amp)

TRO: It is an AudioFormz enclosure. I ordered it directly from them talk to Ronnie. http://www.audioformz.com/. Unfortunately, I can't give you a complete review of the pairing. I finished at the end of the summer and really didn't get a chance to set the amp and tune it correctly. I can say even just quickly tossed in it sounded pretty good. Summer is starting here again and I hope to get it set up correctly so I can accurately assess the set up. I can say the Wetsounds subs are built strong. I think it would handle even more than my 500/1.

I would also check with Earmark. Dave knows his stuff. I know if you want the bass to be more present in the boat you will want a ported box and Earmark may be able to build you something ported rather than the sealed AudioFormz box. If you want something simple quick and small the AudioFormz fit the bill for me.

sjames: I followed wake_fun's lead and mounted my amps to the hull using clickbond fastners. It is a little more tedious, but I like how they work. Here are some pics.

cool. i haven't done anything with my sub and new amp yet. just got the sub in the mail yesterday. i just finished putting in my xs-650's and ws-420 today and it sounds pretty **** good. not as loud as it was before the ws-420 for some reason, but it sounds really clear. next is the ws-12, box, and amp.

have you adjusted the gains on the 420 and on the amps? you can turn the 420 gains to about 3/4 or more and use a little gain on your amps. just back off when you hear distortion.

ALL: Lot's of good ideas can anyone share pics of WS-420 installed? I'm waiting on the JL Sub and tower speakers and will post the install shots.

After looking today I am wondering if it will fit on the Starboard vertical wall right behind the wake shape handle? Hard to measure the depth back there.

For the Amps I am going to use a sheet from TAP plastics to for the Port wall of the front locker and mount them on stand-offs to get air under them to help cool when it is full of towel's sun block, bags, food etc

i actually mounted mine right under the dash on the left side of the steering wheel and it turned out great. had to cut a small square section out of the plastic piece covering the underside of the dash to run the cables. sorry, no pics.
