Which sub is better

Which sub would hit harder? I currently have a Jl 10W6 powered by a Jl 500/1 and it hits pretty hard. Would the Wet Sound sub hit harder powered by the same amp?

We carry both JL Audio and WetSounds. Its difficult to make a comparison because you haven't stated which of several WetSounds subwoofers you are referring to. Out of respect for both manufacturers (both have great subs) I usually reinforce the path that the consumer is already on or whichever the consumer already owns.

However, I can share a few things about the woofer you now have. I would prefer a correctly designed and built bass-reflex enclosure containing a JL 10W6 over any 12-inch woofer in a sealed box, including those from JL Audio.

We just installed a 10W6 in a surprisingly compact bass-reflex enclosure that was installed under the driver's helm console and powered by a Class D JL Audio XD600/1 amplifier. The tonal construction was excellent and the impact/compression was more than the driver could stand in his face so to speak. The bass transferred well throughout the cockpit. You should expect the same results with your present sub and amplifier if a.) the box is the same, and b.) the sub is loaded into the surrounding boat the same.

But if you have problems relating to crossover selection, box type or design, tuning, sub location, adequate preamp voltage, compartment venting, etc, then an upgrade in size whether to JL Audio or WetSounds would be fruitless.

I'm a little skeptical as to whether everything in your system is right at this point being familiar with your sub and knowing what it can do when everything is optimum.

Will a 12W6, 13W6 or XXX-12 be a louder, more intense jackhammer over a 10-inch? Absolutely. Surface area rules. But if you have higher expectations you're going to need more power than your current amplifier, with a really big bass-reflex box.

Just make sure you've fixed any existing shortcomings before upgrading to something larger or you may be disappointed.
