Are you talking about the one beneath the throttle? If so, I think my local dealer still has two used ones lying around.

If you are talking about the white cone looking thing behind the pad, when I upgraded my speakers I did away with them. I one in the drivers console stinks to get out.

Also I did away with the mesh covers too.

        speakers

How did you get the upholstered panel off? I cannot figure it out. What kind of speakers did you upgrade to?

          speaker pods

I am also on smith lake. I have a similar problem. I cant figure out how to get the upholstered panels off. I have two speakers that are busted but I would like to replace them all. I just dont know how to get the panels off.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Also, do you know what type of speakers would be best?

If it is a 2000 air, I believe it is the same as my 99 SSN. There are several bolts that come out of your upholstry and go through the fiberglass beam. If you reach up and behind your upholstry you will feel some bolts that have a washer and a small nut. (Sorry can't remember the nut size off the top of my head). Depending on the side, there will be several along the length of the upholstered piece. Remove the nuts and the hole piece should come right off.

Attached are two pics that shows behind your upholstry were the bolts will be. The bolt you see sticking out of the back of the cushion is what you will be feeling for. The pic with it installed you can see the bolt sticking through just behind the beam support.

Also, as you can see in both photos, I added wetsounds and got rid of the plastic cones. Plenty of room for the speakers back there on our year boats due to the large sides. I didn't even remove the mesh on the front since I wanted to keep the classic look. I may lose just a little sound but they are still plenty loud to make anybody in the boats ears bleed if needed.

            Hope this helps.

              skiking,

How come you decided to keep the grills on the wetsounds when you mounted them behind the mesh grill. Is it because the tweeter is attached to the grill?

gth777t: Yes. I kept the grill on because the tweeter is mounted to the grill of the speaker on the Wetsounds XS-650's.

Yea you will have to take it off. Someone on here mounted a new speaker from the front. I stuck mine back behind but got rid of the cloth grill. http://planetnautique.com/vb3/showth...er-panel-cover

What did you mount the speaker with? It looks like you glued them to the back of the Vinyl? I have two sets of Kicker KM6200 that are too big for the plastic baffles, but too small to mount to the fiberglass. What's supporting the speakers? These weigh about 3lbs each, and a hard bump on the water would send them to the floor with just glue.

For those who got rid of the mesh/piping, did you just cut it out right around the piping? I want to get rid of these so I can flush-mount my speakers, but I don't want to ruin the vinyl, either.

I had to drill thru the vinyl as a 6.5" speaker's mounting holes are larger diameter then the mesh pipe.
