    Skylon Rubicon 325 vs. Wetsounds

After talking with a local dealer and his stereo professional they recommended a couple things for a stereo system for me.

    Kenwood excelon Head unit
Kenwood 1000W amp (I think thats what they said to power the tower Speakers)

    For tower speakers either...

    Wetsounds Pro 80s
    or
    Skylon Rubicon 325s
    or
I threw a single Wetsounds Pro 485 in the mix (it would be in place of any other tower speaker). The issue surfaced of what would be the best method to power a single Pro 485.

Anyone have a recommendation on what the best tower speaker set up of the three would be? Also what has anyone heard about the Kenwood excelon head unit?

    1. Pro 80's by a narrow margin, mainly due to looks
    2. Pro 485 - easy to power by briding a two channel amp
    3. Skylon - I won't recommend any Skylon audio products to friends, heard many Skylon systems, never been impressed.

Thanks for the reply Mikeski. I dont have a sub in my boat, will the Pro 485 have more bass to offer than Pro 80s?

        Kevin,

The 485 has more mid bass due to the larger housing and having seperate true sealed woofers versus the 80's coaxial design. But in your set up, i would still go for the 80's. They have a ton of mid bass on their own and since you are going for one or the other, I think the pair gives you more flexibility on the tower.

Also, you will want the towers playing upper mid bass and up anyway as you dont want them to try to play those sub bass freq. So i feel that the mid bass would be second to the fitment on your tower etc...

The pair of 485's is my favorite set up. So if you were saying a pair of 485 or 4 80's, then the 485 pair is my fav with the 3-Some being next. So cool thing is. Either way you go, 80 pair of 485 single. You have so many options later to create a 3-Some. Or add the MB-8's to the 80's etc...

What model amp was that? Either option a SYN-2 would work great

I wouldn't send bass, or more specifically, low bass frequencies to tower speakers. I would have some type of crossover to specifically not feed them bass, in fact, to get the most range (distance, not frequency response) out of the tower speakers.
