Input on Tower Speakers/Amp/Helm mounted Xover for new CC

Help! I am currently waiting for my 05 SV211Team edition which comes stock with Polk/Momo Speakers and Clarion Deck and amp. I did not go with the Tower speakers from CC but I'm planning on running another amp/Titan II speakers and a crossover at the helm. I'm looking for any input or experience with the amp/ tower speakers and crossovers. Suggestions or things to avoid? Pictures would be even better. Oh, BTW I like it loud!

Regarding your new setup, I would be very interested to see how you handle the crossover situation. We tried to make the fader in the Clarion unit a crossover, but that didn't work out, so I wouldn't try that.

I think a crossover is a must if you like to listen to music loud b/c if you want the skier to hear the music at all and dont have a crossover, it is umbareabely loud in the boat. We have a kicker amp and another one i forgot the name of for the tower speakers (by Fusion) and when we crank it up, it gets loud! Too loud in the boat and not loud enough skiiing. If we had a crossover, it would fix that.

IMO the best tower speakers are NVS, www.nvs1.net, call Duane he's a good guy to work with, a bit pricey but you get what you pay for.
Next best are the Electrovoice Evid's with lots of power behind them or a custom built 4 - 6x9 setup. The Loud Liquid whiplash box is also pretty nice if you don't want something too heavy.

Exactly! I took a test drive in a customer boat that had a cross over mounted under the dash which was used to fade direct sound to the boarder or the passengers independently. I saw/heard that and new it was a must. I'm hoping for some brand names and creative mounting ideas.

Yep, that's the stock setup. It seems like you can get more for your money going after market.

try a high quality amp like zapco or jl... they have built in crossovers...

On my SV-211 Team I will be taking the 320 watt Clarion amp and unhooking it from the sub. I will then hook it from one of the RCA's out of the head unit, to the four speakers in the cabin, 80 watts each. I will leave the head unit hooked to the two speakers in the bow as it comes from the factory. I will then hook the other RCA out to my Rockford Fosgate P5002 Bridged to give 500 watts at 4ohms to the Evid 6.2's on the tower in parallel to give 250 watts to each speaker. (Hooking up the Evid's in parallel brings them from an 8ohm to a 4ohm load.) I will then use the pre-amp out on the Rockford to a Alpine MRV-T302 bridged for 150 watts rms to the 10 inch Polk sub that comes with the boat. The beauty of this is that you can use the front to back fade to control the speakers. We like it loud too, so when someone is boarding we fade the back (cabin speakers) speakers completely out and only run the tower speakers and the sub. I also have a 150 powered Bazooka sub tube that I am running in my current boat. I am toying with the idea of Splitting the RCA's from the Rockford out to the Alpine and putting it in the rear locker on the port side. This setup will give me 1150 watts RMS in the new boat and should sound pretty good.

This is the basic set-up I am running in my 04 SV-211 now with the clarion speakers. It works great, you can turn the music up loud on the tower speakers and still hold a conversation in the boat. The Evid's give off more than enough music for in the cabin as well as for the people 80 feet back as well. When you have your bimini top the effect is even better.

Sounds like a clean install (no extra EQ hanging down below the dash). I will definitely explore that option.

The only thing is that the second set of RCA's out on the Clarion head unit are set from the factory for low pass (subwoofer) but that is easy to change in the setup mode on the head unit. And you are right you don't need an EQ to do what you want. Good luck, when do you get your new boat? My dealer told me Friday that the delivery date for mine is the last week in Febuary.

Tyler0, don't get discouraged. My dealer said that too and it ended up coming early, or the originally planned date. I think they just do that so the boat looks like it comes early or in case something happens, they have time to fix it.

You mean underpromise and over deliver! What a concept! I live that moto (in the software business) but I've never seen it before in the marine industry. I hope your right becuase I'm getting tired of bumming rides among those few of us still riding in San Diego.

I hope I'm right too, but its not a fact, so if your boat doesn't come til, Feb. I take no responsibility! LoL--its just my thought...

Think of it this way, once you get it, there will be less time you have to wait until it gets in the water! And when you do bumb a ride, just tell them what you're waiting for, and then they'll be wanting to bum rides from you! Just make sure you tell them the boat runs on gas, not "Thanks!" :wink: $$$ ..................................... jk...
