XMD3 problems...

Alright the HU itself works fine, but I am having problems with the outputs....

This is installed in a Ski 206, and I am in the process of wiring up the upgraded infinity system in it. ( http://www.planetnautique.com/index....ewtopic&t=1921 )

anyways, there are 3 2V outputs I am guessing they are Front-Rear-Sub
Although I've heard one person say one is the aux input.

The front channel works fine on the system, the rear is VERY weak almost no signal
and as for the sub, I can't get it to work - this is either because of a DOA sub amp or the output not working properly.

Are there built in HP/LP filters on this unit and anyway to change them? because I am totally stuck on getting this stereo completed until I figure out the wiring scheme for the RCAs.


if you guys would like me to go into more detail - like a wiring diagram and stuff I would be happy to.

Look in your manual. The second set of RCA plugs CAN be run as a rear fader. In the Clarion manual it tells you this set of RCA's can either be a sub output or a rear output. You have to go through the settings and set it to REAR not sub. Sorry I don't remember how to do this but it is in the manual. The third set of RCA's are inputs.

The RED RCA cables coming out of your stereo are inputs.

The following will restore the programming of the rear RCA pre-amp outputs to full frequency range.

1) Press and hold "Title/ADJ" button for two seconds
2) Use "SEARCH" button to scroll through the menu until the display reads "SW LPF".
3) Press the "VOL UP/DOWN" button to engage "REAR" full frequency range audio signal.
4) Once the desired adjustments are completed, press "TITLE/ADJ" button to exit program menu.

WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT IF THE BATTERY SOURCE IS DISCONNECTED FOR MORE THAN 48 HOURS, THE RE-PROGRAMMING IS LOST.

IF A BATTERY IS REMOVED FOR WINTER STORAGE, THE RE-PROGRAMMING WILL BE NECESARY AGAIN IN THE SPRING."

This is how I will be doing my system on my SV-211 Team. I will be taking the 320 watt Clarion amp and unhooking it from the sub. I will then hook it from one of the RCA's out of the head unit, to the four speakers in the cabin, 80 watts each. I will leave the head unit hooked to the two speakers in the bow as it comes from the factory. I will then hook the other RCA out to my Rockford Fosgate P5002 Bridged to give 500 watts at 4ohms to the Evid 6.2's on the tower in parallel to give 250 watts to each speaker. (Hooking up the Evid's in parallel brings them from an 8ohm to a 4ohm load.) I will then use the pre-amp out on the Rockford to a Alpine MRV-T302 bridged for 150 watts rms to the 10 inch Polk sub that comes with the boat. The beauty of this is that you can use the front to back fade to control the speakers. We like it loud too, so when someone is boarding we fade the back (cabin speakers) speakers completely out and only run the tower speakers and the sub. I also have a 150 watt powered Bazooka sub tube that I am running in my current boat. I am toying with the idea of Splitting the RCA's from the Rockford out to the Alpine and putting it in the rear locker on the port side. This setup will give me 1150 watts RMS in the new boat and should sound pretty good.

This is the basic set-up I am running in my 04 SV-211 now with the clarion speakers. It works great, you can turn the music up loud on the tower speakers and still hold a conversation in the boat. The Evid's give off more than enough music for in the cabin as well as for the people 80 feet back as well. When you have your bimini top the effect is even better.

awesome. I will be going with the EVIDS, and I have 2 free channels on my 5760 that I can bridge to 300 watts rms I am just concerned that they wont get enough power, so I may have to go with something a little smaller.

If you bridge that to get 300 watts and run the Evids in paralell that is only 150 per speaker. IMHO 250 watts each is the minimun you should run on them. They spec 300 rms each. I have 250 each on mine and they sound great.

ohhh they are 8 ohm, that sucks. I need some 4 ohm speakers to bridge down to 2 ohms.

Boy I need help. 2004 SAN, and I understood you to say the red RCA from the XMD3 are inputs? I am quite the rookie so when you guys talk ohms, bridge, etc.. I feel like I have left the U.S. . My mtx 5 channel amp (thunder 895) has two pairs of RCA inputs for front and rear speakers. If I use the grey RCA's to run the front speakers - I understand, the sub RCA from the head unit go into the sub RCA on the amp, now how do I power the rear speakers from the amp -- do I need to convert the wires to RCA and run them from the head unit to the amp rear input? Or is there a way to change the red RCA's to rear speakers? I thought I sort of understood that but not sure?

I just wanted to provide some closure to all my issues -- as if that could all be done on this site - smile. I have been working with others through "PM" to get my stereo and amps working. I also talked with marineaudio.com and everyone has been very helpful and I appreciate it so much. Thank YOU. I am still trying some of the suggestions, so far they work but the amount of power to the other speakers is greatly reduced. I have a few more suggestions to try.

I have decided to run a pre-amp/eq in my system, something like the Clarion EQS744, it will bump the deck output to the required levels and add control between the system components.

The 5760 is not an ideal amp for your system, you might be able to get more with less. I would sell it/return it and get a couple two channel amps. One midsize two channel to run the four boat speakers and one large two channel bridged to mono to run the evids. This would optimize the amps for the loads giving you the biggest bang for the buck.

Let us know how it sounds or if anything smokes...
