Hey Guys,

Found an interesting device for the ipod called the itrip made by griffin technology, available from most apple retailers and HP online. It’s a small radio transmitter that just plugs into the headphone socket on the top of the ipod. Then just tune your car, home or any radio in to the pre-set frequency (i.e. 87.9FM - changeable) and it picks up your ipod tunes as clear as a whistle - no fuss and no wiring. You can even control the volume from the ipod too!

Can't see any reason this shouldn't work in the boats and will try it in the morning. If it does, for around $34.95, it’s a neat gadget for anyone who doesn’t already have the connectors in their boat and can't be doing with the hassle of wiring. Even better for those with older stereos.

You know, I brought up this same device on MBO and got completely shot down! It was going to be my plan for Ipod in the boat but I may go to straight RCA inputs now. Search for Ipod on MBO and you can hear all the reasoning.

I use the itrip for both a mini and a regular ipod and it works well in my car. The itrip is great for a quick and easy (and cheap) fix. I experience periodic interference but the sound is ok most of the time. A true audiophile will want a direct hook-up.

I have used the belkin for my dell jukebox and I wasn't happy with it at all. It gets too much interference. I think I am going to buy the style that goes into your tape deck (still have one of those in my vehicle)

The word on the street guys and gals is apparently at the CES show in Las Vegas, Clarion are launching their iPod link cable should become available soon.

You guys Stateside might have a better chance of sourcing one before us UK chaps.

I've use both Blekin and itrip. I've tested both and found both had levels of distortion/interferance that was acceptable to a point. I blast music through my tower speakers when we are riding. What I found is that itrip's sound quality was worse than Belkin. It has more distortion of the music at normal and high volumes.

I only use the Belkin transmitter now.

although I have to admit, I wouldn't use either if I had the port in my stereo to direct wire. Neither produced the sound quality that I like.

I am very interested in hearing more about the clarion link cable mentioned above!

For all you Clarion XMD-1 users, I would recommend the CD Changer Port i-Pod Connector. This is a do-it-yourself project that really works well. I made one after reading this article, and it is perfect!

Sound quality by interface:

Direct connection to aux-in = excellent (CD)

Casette adapter = good (Better than tape)

Wired FM modulator = fair (depends on modulator, about the same as FM)

Wireless FM modulator = poor (not as good as a clear FM station)

If you are listening to vocal dominated music through the stock system you may be quite happy with the wireless FM mod. I have had several varieties and now have aux-inputs on my vehicles without stock systems. The wireless works fine for my yard projects truck and the casette adapter works fine for the wife's Tahoe, but the boat and my car have direct aux-inputs.

It really just depends on how critical you are about the sound quality.

where do you get this aux hookup? I have the dell jukebox and would like to use it in my car. I have the belkin tunecast 2 right now and I don't care for it at all.
