Need to upgrade

We are looking to upgrade the stock stereo i our " 07 " SN 206 I am not sure if adding an amp will help with the sound or if I have to change the head unit and then add an amp. Any help would be great.

The factory Clarion source unit in an '07 model should be fine. Currently you must have just four speakers or otherwise factory would have included an amplifier. If you do no more than add an amplifier this will make a dramatic difference. And, even without a subwoofer you will want to run your coaxials highpass (crossed over at around 50 hz). Believe me, there is no chance the coaxials will contribute at 50 hz so the filter will not reduce the bass at all. However, by narrowing the amplifier's responsibility a little and removing the taxing excursion from the small coaxials the power handling, output and cleanliness will soar.
