JL audio sub in factory location

Has anyone replaced the factory sub with the JL audio infinite baffle and what kind of results did you get?? (2009 230san). The factory polk seems ineffective.

    Cap,
Even though the Polk MM sub is a good woofer you are correct in that it is totally ineffective as it is put to task in an infinite baffle application. The JL Audio IB woofer will be a big improvement simply because its designed specifically for this role. Also, you will crossover and tune an infinite baffle sub very differently from a small sealed or bass-reflex version.

We recently did a 210 with a 13-inch sealed sub under the port side observers seat so that we were able to maintain the cooler and storage in the port locker. We used four vents to allow the bass radiation to freely flow from the locker. It definitely got the job done!!! We left the factory sub operational but it made very little contribution comparatively.

        Hey Cam,

I noticed you have been asking about sub boxes. Here is a picture of the one I built recently to fit under the helm on my 2002 SANTE. David at Earmark gave me some tips as to what would sound the best for my application.

Its a ported box for a JL 10w3. It did take some work cleaning up wiring under the dash. I was able to relocated the fuse box to the wall on the left side where the perfect pass module is usually mounted. Also, I had to cut out the hump (not sure if your model has the hump).

Let me know if you would like some more pictures or dimensions.

David I just placed my order for the JL sub through your online store. I may need some advice about amp settings after I install it.

              Brad,
Odin is forwarding my number so you can call. Give me a ring just before you do the install. I know its simple enough but I want to discuss a structural issue or two.
              Thank You

We updated the gallery and the 210 presentation with the photos and explanation (several typos yet to be corrected) for the JL Audio 13-inch sub. Take a look. We have a TW10P 10-inch bass-reflex enclosure that we routinely use in the cooler location plus a few enclosure/woofer combos in the Malibu-specific section that fit the Nautique port locker application very well. And don't forget the forum discount.

                        David,
Could that same enclosure be built for a 230? I have the garbage can option and my wife loves having it. I currently have a W7 in a sealed box in the compartment and it's not doing much so I need a better option and really like the looks and I could install three or four vents

                          Allen,
I'm assuming that you viewed our updated photos and description of the JL Audio 13-inch sub in the '09 210. If you send photos of that same area under the port forward observers seat of the 230 and a few dimensions then I'll be glad to plot it out and see if its a fit, whether using our existing design or a fresh one.
The JL Audio W7 is an incredible sub, still the benchmark in my opinion, but I'm underwhelmed by its use in a sealed enclosure particularly in a boat. An enclosed vehicle cabin is another story. You have really got to run the W7 in a bass-reflex enclosure in your application but of course that means a larger enclosure and giving up the cooler and storage.

When I get my boat out of storage or get over there this winter. I would like to make a change in the enclosure even if it means a change in the entire sub.
