    polk sub relocation questions

I'm a total dummy when it comes to stereo stuff, so here is my question. I would like to relocate my sub, its a polk momo in a bazuka tube in the observers compartment. I'd like the storage back. Can i put it in the kick panel under the sterring wheel in place of the current speaker? I realize i'd have to open the hole up, but would it sould at least as well as if it was in the tube? I'm builing a speaker mount to move the current cockpit speaker in the drivers kickpanel to where it could be heard, much like Eastie has done.

    Thanks in advance.

You'll have to widen the hole, but it can be done You could also build another kick panel out of plywood and carpet it. You might have to build a box behind the panel if the tube is too long and could be better served doing it this way You might also have to sand down the little hump behind the panel to get the box to sit flush.

If you want to keep the tube, I have seen people mount them underneath the helm with straps. This never seemed like an appealing location to me, but I think they make straps specifically for this purpose.

Good luck with the speaker relocation. I have been really pleased with the results. One tip, the $20 I spent to have a pro put the carpet on that little curved piece was worth every penny.

Don't see that vintage everyday so my memory may be a little sketchy. You always have the option of rebuilding the removeable factory underdash facade/kick panel out of birch and recovering it with marine grade carpet. As I recall you have more height and width available and less depth underdash. So a custom rectangular enclosure will be easier to fit the space and partially conceal. You should be able to space it out a bit more. Also, placing the Polk sub in a Bazooka tube is a total misalignment. You will get much better quality of bass with the correct enclosure.

What's required if I ditch the tube, which was what I was intending, my post just didnt make that clear.

What size polk sub is it? For nice tight bass, a nice little sealed enclosure does a good job. Volume of the enclosure will depend on the sub.

I have an 8" Polk Master Monitor Series Sub in a .35 cf (if I recall correctly) sealed truck box (slant box) that is side firing behind my kick panel (on the big hump in the 98 SN. If you have a 10" Momo sub, I'm guessing you would need about .66 cf in a sealed enclosure.
