Hey Happy winter folks! Got ice? Does anyone have the Boss Rocker tower speakers? They claim to handle 1000w & sound great.... so any opinions? What say you? Thanks, Dan

Okay, as for the power handling claim...that might be in respect to how Boss amplifiers are rated. But on the other hand have you ever seen a 1000 watt power handling on an 8-inch subwoofer from a legit brand for example? Or, have you seen a 1000 watt rating from a WetSounds or other 8-inch HLCD speaker? You don't have to be a technophile. It's pretty much common sense. Your investment would be better placed with a speaker that has a real history in designing tower speakers.

Back in the early 1930s, tube amplifier power was extremely limited by today's standards. Imagine how hard it was to fill an expansive theater. Horn loaded compression drivers were first introduced to this venue. They were exceptionally efficient, very powerful and had the ability to project great distances without strain.
The evolution of that early technology (HLCDs) are used in wakeboard tower speakers today. The challenges are very similar. We have to project with authority at 70 to 80 feet in an open field environment and in the face of considerable engine noise. The fact is that conventional direct radiating speakers are not up to this challenge. Can you hear them at 70/80 feet? Sure, if you have enough of them and enough power. But conventional speakers in any number won't provide articulate and intelligible music under these circumstances. You may hear the music but the melody may be difficult to follow and the lyrics may be smeared.
HLCDs are engineered specifically for this task. These include Bullet HollowPoint, Exile, Kicker, NVS and WetSounds to name a few. These products are the genuine article.
Your price objective is right on the heels of a pair of WetSounds Pro60s. This is a true Proaxial horn loaded compression driver based on the same designs used in pro and commercial sound. This is the only type speaker that can get the job done in an outdoor concert for example.
