    Sub placement in an ExcelO/B

I'm installing a JL 13TW5 under the dash in my boat. For those who don't know it is one of the thin JL subs, I'm a bit challenged for space in the Excel so that is the only place that isn't being used. I thought about doing a long thin box that ran down the side of the driver seat under the throttle and fired into the side of the hull. That idea got scrapped because of the room that it required meant that my feet would at an odd angle when driving. I do like the stealth idea because the boat sits in a lift down the street so I'm a bit nervous about making things easy to find.

A regular box facing the driver is no problem, but I had another idea to still make it stealth. If a I face the sub to the bow then all you see is the carpeted. The boat is an open bow, so its not a giant cavity, but it a playpen design and the bottom of the playpen doesn't go to the floor. Looks like the sound would go up to the nose and then come back out around the observers seat. There is plenty of vent so that wouldn't be an issue.

Does anyone have any thoughts? I really don't want to build 2 boxes just to try it out. In an effort to save some room for my feet I'm keeping the box thin by making it angle up the side of the hull on one side so I cant just turn it around.

TXF, don't know if you've already purchased your sub or not, but if not and are looking for a shallow mount sub, you might look into Stereo Integrity BM MkIII. I have been running 1 12" MkIII under the rear seat of my Tundra for about a year now and it is simply amazing. .5 cu. foot of airspace is all it requires and it thumps HARD. I'm getting another to put in my '96. http://stereointegrity.com/index.php?id=47

Already got it, that's interesting though. I kinda remember hearing about that last year but it wasn't out, now it looks like they're out until the next model is done. I got a great deal on the TW5 during the holidays so hopefully it will do what they say it does. The boxes are small enough to get 2 out of one sheet of wood so I guess I'll just have to try it and see.
