I believe the unit plays mp3s but the crutchfield website says otherwise...
Waterproof remote with display mmmmmmmm, that alone is makes it almost worth it in my book, although the xmd3 also had that. Not sure if 1.8v pre is any better then before.

I am looking at replacing my XMD1 with the CMD4 right now. Is it the same size as the XMD1? I really want the sirius radio plug in and also plugging in the i pod would be really nice. What does the C-Net ready stand for?
You might have already seen this, but if you can live without Sirius, this has worked very well for a number of PlanetNautique members, including me. Check this thread out.

My cd player isn't working anymore, so it's time replace it anyways. I did see that little project and I would do that if my cd player worked. I do want the sirius radio really bad though, sounds so much cleaner through the unit. Curious though if I were to buy the CMD4 and hook up my I pod directly to the unit, would I be able to switch songs and that good stuff through the unit or would I have to play around with the i pod as well?
I was going to upgrade to the CMD-4, but have since found out that it does NOT play MP3's. Several companies confirmed this. what the heck is up with Clarion? Their website siad it played MP3's (a while ago), but there's no mention of it now. What kind of upgrade would this be... from a XMD-3?
The face on that one flips down and you can put the CD in. So, no you don't need the changer to play a CD. It would be a nice upgrade!
Here are a couple of shots.
