2002 SANTE Stock Sub

Have done my research here and read that its box and enclosure is the real issue. I saw a few threads where folks had cut holes in the walkthrough and covered up with mesh as to vent the area.

Some others mentioned removing the sub and altering the enclosure. Is that a fairly simply process? How should it be altered?

Are there other options out there that people have seen done or have experience with?

First priority is usually to install an enclosed subwoofer under the driver's helm console. Bass-reflex if there is adequate space and sealed if its tighter.
If room isn't available then you often move to the port locker behind the observer seat with an enclosed sub. Again, bass-reflex has more output but is also a much larger enclosure for the same size driver. And in this case you really have to vent the locker in order to have respectable bass, not from a boom and rumble standpoint but from a quality of sound perspective. So your tolerance for giving up storage will come into play with this option.
Next, you may have an option of a true infinite baffle woofer in the pass-thru wall. If correctly executed it will perform well although perhaps just shy of a sealed 10-inch under the driver's helm. And it really doesn't eat up storage room.
In any case you want to keep the subwoofer in the forward portion of the cockpit.
When the helm console doesn't pan out and you don't want to sacrifice space in the port locker or give up the cooler and the pass-thru provision isn't there then you move onto one of the seat consoles under the bottom cushion. This is usually very challenged for the height. It means you may have to downfire. That in itself is a compromise and you still need adequte venting area.
So there is the progression according to the typical location priorities. Each boat model is different and usually the boat dictates the best option. Sometimes the most efficient option isn't selected. Instead the selection that will house the largest woofer/enclosure combination or produce the most output gets the nod. Thats the boat owner's call.
Anytime you determine the maximum enclosure displacement then its fairly simple and objective to determine which size of woofer and which type of loading will deliver the best. The largest woofer isn't always the best woofer in a given application.
Step by step you should be able to see how your particular boat fits the template.

Do you have any customer install pictures of of an older generation SAN with the sub installed in the drivers helm? all of the pics on your site seem to be of the larger SAN with much much much more room

Sorry, no photos. But follow the prescription and take some measurements. Once you've determined the best location in your boat and the maximum dimensions that are available, I can tell you what I would recommend for that space.

David I appreciate the advice. With the stock sub already placed under the passenger and in an inadequate enclosure. What would be your suggestion as far as improving the settup using the stock sub? Completely remove it and build in under the driver? Or just improve its enclusure and possibly vent to the walk through?

many have built a seat behind the drivers that mirrors the seat on the port side , one 15inch sub or maybe two 12inch fit under the seat and shoot down. It is very functional because it adds another seat to help balance the boat when you are riding with extra people, also does not take up any valuable storage space.
