Is there a battery for the clarion that I need to install so that radio pre-sets stay in the memory? I lose the pre-set stations when I turn off the Perko switch when the boat is trailered...

It relies on battery power to retain the settings. If you throw your perko to off, you shut that power off. Obviously. You could run a wire from your battery directly to your stereo's wire harness. Virtually no draw to it at all. Download the manual for the Clarion to determine which wire it is. Super easy to do.the WakeSlayer

If you are moving the switch to all off then it is cutting the power to everything radio included, so if you want to save the pre-sets you have to keep power to the clock feed at all times, aka run that wire directly to one of the batteries and the problem is solved. Otherwise everytime you move that perko switch you will lose your presets and clock settings. Also depending on how it is wired you may need to run a new ground as well. On a radio you have two power feeds one for the unit with is keyed to the ignition switch typically and then the other is for the memory and needs a constant 12V feed that is not switched through the ignition or a perko switch so that it has voltage at all times engine on or off, with the perko and setting to all off you are taking the positive cables out of the loop and losing power to the feed that needs a constant power source to be able to save the presets and clock settings. I wouldn't be surprised if when switching from one battery to the other it doesn't do the same thing(lose presets) but maybe not.Last edited by IMPACT-EV1; 06-07-2011, 01:10 PM.
