Hi. I have an 01 SAN and I was looking at replacing my stock clarion 6.5" speakers. I just have 4 to replace, I don't have any in the bow. I am driving them with a Phoenix Gold Tantrum 600X4 and my price range is around 500-600 for both pairs. Curious on what I should I get. Looking for excellent sound quality. I am looking at getting MB Quart PCE 216's right now. Opinions?

Not sure if you asked the same question on ww or if it was somebody else, if it was you, sorry for the redundant answer.
MB Quart makes great sounding speakers very neutral in tone that work well in quiet closed vehicles with plenty of amplifier power. I don't feel they are the best choice for boats. Save your money and go with something cheaper and more efficient. Polk momo, Infinity, even the cheap Pioneer or Sony's would probably sound better then some of the higher prices less efficient "audiophile" grade speakers. Our boats are a very noisy environment so efficiency is pretty important.

I tend to prefer coaxials, most components have tweeter mounting issues. I have been in several buddies boats where the tweeters hang by the wires, I always try fix them but they bounce back out after hitting a couple wakes.
Save yourself a few bucks, buy the Pioneer 3 or 4 ways that they sell on e-bay for about $20/pr. They are a little bright for cars but that sounds like what you are looking for.

Dude, go with Kicker KM60 Marine Coaxialswith half-inch Kaladex dome tweets.....These speakers are hidden jewels...Maximum water resistance, durability and excellent sound quality. When I had my system redone from the stock configuration, I kept all the Kicker Marine stuff and my installer, and myself, were VERY impressed with the sound quality. I even had a real box made for my Kicker Marine 10" sub and it BUMPS.
If you feel like you are not getting enough mids, highs and vocals out of your 6.5s then you might look at some crossovers (or a head unit with buit in crossovers and a seperate sub control) to take some bass out of your 6.5s. It helps ALOT.

would suggest the image dynamic chamealon...they can be configured coaxial or as seperates.....
durability is very good and sound quality is amazing(they replaced my dynaudios gt's at 2x the price)...
the drawback is the magnet on the back is HUGE !!! make sure they fit..

Scubasteve,
I was out in my boat yesterday with the stock system, since I have not yet had time to install the stuff in boxes in my garage. Anyway it has the stock Polk Momo's running off the deck. I had pretty much considered this to be throw away stuff, but it actually sounds pretty decent. I think the Polk Momo's actually sound better then the Infinity's in my old boat. You might want to give them some consideration. They are available on e-bay for about $100 per pair.

thanks for all the replies. I actually decided to go with Focal 165cv. Decided to stick with the same speakers as my tower. I have six of the Focal 690cv in my liquid trends tower box and I am really impressed with these speakers. The rest of my stereo is getting installed right now so I will post some picks when finished.
