Alpine MC-1 remote

Does anyone know if the MC-1 Alpine remote can be used without the MC-10 Remote Commander system? If not, what does the MC-10 give you that the MC-1 does not? Thanks.

Although they are both wireless, the MC10 comes with an additional wireless RF receiver that connects to your head unit's steering wheel input. The MC1 does not come with this piece, and there is a series of commands that pairs them to the same frequency.

They work flawlessly together!
