    JL Audio Amp over heating?

I recently installed a JL Audio MHD600 amp to power my JL Audio tower speakers. It has been working fine but last two days it has shut off and flashes red. To the touch it feels very warm and the manual says it will turn it self off when it is over heating. Today we were out for an hour or 2 before it turned off...anyone else have this issue? Thoughts on fixing?

I have 2 guesses of what it could be. First is that one of your tower speakers is partially damaged resulting in a low impedence load (overload) on the amp causing it to overheat. Second is that your battery voltage is low enough to make the amp work hard enough to overheat. Both could be wrong, but those are my guesses for tonight based on the input you provided.

I have the same amp and the same problem. I sent it to Jl and it's been there a month, hopefully get it back today.. I checked all the items above Mikeski talked about and there was nothing wrong in those areas.. I installed a different amp and it works fine so the JL amp had to be the problem. If they give a report on what was wrong I will post.

Also mine played fine until you started the engine and then it went into protection mode.
