I know there is alot of dicussion about IPODS, but for $220 , the 20g Dell is a pretty good deal. I think the street price on the 20g IPod is over 300.

anyway, I loaded up 14G (4000 songs) into my DJ, and then plugged it into the AUX jacks I installed in the glove box of my 04 211, and viola! it just works. I ordered the car charger, and fm transmiter(came with it) for 34 bucks , and am set for tunes. I am looking into the remote unit, to see if I can extend it and put it on my dash. now I have to figure out a better mount in the glove box.

I'm looking to do the same thing with the Ipod. If you do get a remote unit for the helm I'd like to see how you pull it off.

Plus you gotta luv the fact a dell dj last 1.5-1.75 times that of a ipod in terms of battery.

I just got an Ipod Mini 6Gb and am pretty thrilled with it too. These MP3 players are just fun in general. I think if you are satisfied with the features, then you really can't go wrong with any of them. Everyone seems to love the one they have, and that's all that really matters. Pretty cool putting a huge portion of your music into one tiny little player. Kind of made me get back into music.

I have a 13 pin connector on it's way for the XMD1 hookup on the 2002. Between the song lists and the Perfect Pass, I don't have to mess with anything and just drive and ride and have fun.

I just got a 6gb mini, and the battery lasts longer than I expected. With my 1 1/2 hour drive to work and about 2 hours of listening at work, I only have to charge it every 3 - 4 days.

I am sure I am getting at least 15 hours out of a charge.

They boasted 12-18 hours on the new Ipod Mini 6Gb. I bought it because it was the latest and greatest with all the bugs supposedly fixed (we'll see). I do like it though and what is better than taking 1500 songs with you wherever you go. No muss no fuss on the boat. An MP3 player with tons of storage is a nice thing to have on the ride. I wanted a micro drive unit, for me the storage is plenty, I looked at the Zen Micro too. I don't think I would have been disappointed either way.

I added a clarion eqs744 eq with line driver, and the sound going from the the MP3>HU>EQ>Amp>speakers, is very nice. before the MP3 was a little lower than playing a cd direct.

a nice add fo 65 bucks, if your driving amps.

still waiting for dell to get a remote.

I have the XMD1 with the 4x40 amp and a sub, nothing special, but it does alright and the sub booms the boat a bit if you turn it up. Next year for the stereo upgrades. I will keep that EQ in mind. Thanks.

PS-> saw some XMD4's for 220 on ebay, the remotes for 100, if anyone is looking to upgrade. I don't know how good it is buying that kind of stuff on ebay for returns and such, but that's a pretty good deal if you don't pay tax either.

Quick question,

Im just going to be adding this to the xmd-1 this weekend. Got the 13 dinpin and such. My question is i have a mail headphone jack to rca adapter cable. I hooked the rca's, connect to the dj, to my home theater system. It worked good. Question time, the volume level was very low. I had to up the volume on my receiver to like 60 to get good volume. Also when i adjusted the volume on the dj it also increased the volume on the stereo.

Is this also going to be a problem on the boat? I hope not, im pretty sure the increased volume on the dj will decrease battery life.

How did your installs go, in terms of the above scenario?

Just want make sure everything is good. The Deafcon V's are going to arrive on friday. Got my tracking number and everything. Should be a great long weekend if i can get this all finished on friday. Amp, wiring through the tower is all done.

These small MP3 players kind of work like a pre-amp, their signal is small. It then comes into the pre-amp section of whatever amp you are using and works with the volume there. So really you have a double pre-amp situation. You may need to get another little inline signal processor that you can adjust the voltage between the MP3 and the head unit if it's bad. Chances are it will work better on the boat, I believe they have a smaller signal requirement than a home stereo. I am guessing a bit though. I am putting my ipod through the XMD-1 this weekend and will post my results. Increased volume will definately kill battery life, you may want to have a cig lighter plug in too.
