'dp' denotes dual purpose which means thinner, lighter plates and less capacity for deeper cycles as a percentage before battery degradation begins. A true consumer level deep cycle battery will tolerate a repetitive 50 percent discharge. A full charge is 12.7 volts. A 50 percent charge is 12.0 volts. Ever check your true voltage after a period at rest and before starting the engine?

Would it be smarter to get a cranking battery and a deep cycle? I do have a 1,2, all perk switch and I'll be redoing my power and ground since I'm moving to a two battery system.

        gride,
We have already addressed that issue in some detail. If you don't mind go ahead and re-read the thread and you will see my thoughts on that one.

So two group 29's with a perko 1,2,all switch? I was confused over whether you meant a 24 and 29 or what not.
