Silliest stereo question I could come up with!

OK here goes. My BIG project for this off season is to change out my 3.5mm male AUX cable that runs from my stereo under the floor to my helm cup holder to run my I-Phone. The one I have now has a big plug and I have to pull the case off my phone to make it work. Question I have is does anyone reccomend a 6' 3.5mm stereo input extension cable for Apple iPhone. I want the best one out so I dont have to replace it every year.

Check monoprice.com and get whatever their premium gold plated one is. It will be very inexpensive and built like a Tiger II tank.

They are nice cables, but they say it will not work with a cased i-phone.

The reality is that the really fine conductors (wires) in a stereo cable with a 3.5 MM phone plug are really fragile.
Copper is a metal that works hardens. You cannot eliminate this characteristic.
If it really that important, carry a spare cable.

Found one that an A/V guy from American Airlines Center told me about. Looks like a good one, we'll give it a shot.

            TxJole,

The Apple serial port is going to give you the best sound to use into your system, but I have found the fexli-meshy? wires to work the best, when connect and disconnecting.

My buddies use some similar to the link above, but they got it at Radio Shack.

I use a generic MP3 player not my Iphone due to text messaging and trying to link up on the water, it became a PINTA to keep checking with the iphone beeps, vibrate or whatever. I keep the generic MP3 player in the glove box, that way the tunes are always on the boat, even if the phone is making a call, checking facebook, etc.

why even use a cable? Put in the clarion bluetooth adapter and be done with it! Works great.

I was thinking that. Love it in the wife's car but worried about sound quality and not even sure if the CMD5 will take Bluetooth

After looking into it I think i'm going to pass on the Bluetooth. First is I need it to sync with an Iphone 4S and i'm seeing some places that it wont and also it looks to have poor (30hz) sound quality.

I use this one: Stinger SPI336 ($9 amazon)

The 90 degree angle helps to keeps the cable from getting bent at the cable to plug point. I also use the dock connector via a CCAIPOD interface in the glove box when I just want to roll with a playlist. Having both options is nice... especially when somebody shows up to go boarding with good tunes on a droid.

I studied allday yesterday. I will put a flush mount aux port next to my ac plug next to the driver seat. Then I'm using a 16 pin ( bottom port of an iPod) with a USB and 3.5mm. That way I can charge and listen to music at once. IPhone headphone jack is only 2 volt of power and run through the iPhone eq. 16 pin gives better sound.

can you get a cnet adapter from clarion to use the full speed connection and do away with the 3.5mm cable? I switched to alpine and love the leave it plugged up and keep it charged feature. If someone wants to bring some music, I tell them to bring it on a usb stick and just plug it into the usb cable if they don't have an apple.

They do make a cca for the Clarion but I don't like it. I have it in my other boat and it restricts features bad. When u plug the iPhone in it locks the screen and everything has to be entered via the head unit. I will not use the headphone jack I'm going with an iPod sync cable that will charge and play at once.

Well this is what I did all day. Not easy but I'm pretty anal and found myself adding jobs along the way. Now I get an iPod by USB/3.5mm cable and I charge and don't have to use the low power head phone jack. Boat will go in next week for a new sub and box after sitting and listening with no tower speakers I need more thump and my Momo 10 is not cutting it.
