    need sub location help

i have a 03 air nautique 216 and the sub in it now is worthless. Its from the factory and isnt in a sealed enclosure. I installed a dual battery setup, i have 2 amps now pushing my tower and inside boat speakers. They sound good. I am wanting to install a 3rd amp just for the sub and 2 10" kicker comp vr. I was thinking of building the speaker box and put it where my amps are on passenger side. To me that is the only option. I have the amp and 2 10" already in my closet. Any suggestions?

If you can fit a box and two 10,s there. Go for it. Make the Box out of mdf. Then buy some roll on rhino liner. Keeping the wood dry is the most important thing. Remember bass is non directional so where ever you put it, it should have the same effect

If the port side observer's locker is your only/best option then it will be a major challenge to have enough vent surface area to adequately pass the bass radiation from dual 10s. Ideally you would want around 100 square inches minimum of vent surface area. Without it you may still get a lot of bump but with little tonal construction. It is the difference between a 'boat shaker' and a musical 'bass maker'. Placing a sub enclosure within another enclosure (the locker) functions as a crude lowpass filter that mutes the more distinctive bass qualities. How do you like the sound of a subwoofer, any subwoofer, in a sealed trunk when you are standing just outside the closed trunk? There probably isn't a better location so do your best to take what that particular boat gives you and overcome this particular compromise.

I hate to hear rattle. I'm looking at maybe putting a box under driverside and 1 in the passenger compartment. The amp I have is kicker 400x1 and subs 2 ohms. It sounded good in my truck. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I would avoid doing asymmetrical subwoofers. The under driver's helm would be direct radiating. In contrast, the passenger observer's locker would have a sub inside an enclosure. This port side would have the sub inside a very large and compliant air mass (the compartment and adjoining gunnel cavities) and restricted through a smaller and resistive vent. A combination that has a profound impact on the sub's final phase response as it exits which will differ greatly from the other side. So take your lumps elsewhere. Either collect the subs in a similar orientation and similar loading, eliminate one sub location or downsize the subs to get both collected in a more optimum situation.

So would it be best to just put 1 ten by drivers foot? Since both in the locker isn't the best. Is that the downsizing you were referring too?

Either one under the driver's helm or two in the port locker...but not a mix of both.
