    Tower speakers for stock amp

    I recently purchased a 2004 SV211 Team Edition.

The PO had the stock HU, in boats and Kicker 350.4 Amp and sub, but never added the tower speakers (or they were sold and he didn't want to tell me.)

I want to add a set of tower speakers, but my boat budget is stretched so I am hoping to do some of the upgrades over time. My ideal budget would be about $600 - $800 this year, but might be able to stretch up to $1k if it makes sense.

I am not looking for the loudest speakers and I am not an audiophile. I want the sound to be reasonable in the boat when hanging out and would love to be able to hear it when wakeboarding.

My original thought based on reading this board would be to get something like the Rev8, upgrade/add-to the amp, and re-wire the in-boats, but this adds up to a ton of money that I need to cover some repairs and equipment this year.

Is there a smaller/cheaper set of tower speakers I could buy this year, and then next year add an amp or WS-420, then add another set of speakers?

Should I stretch my budget and get one set of Rev8s now and be done with the speakers, and then get amp next year? The 350.4 is already running 2 channels bridges to the Kicker sub, so I only have two channels left, so is that enough power? Maybe it will be a bit quiet now, but better once I upgrade the amp?

I don't want to be too cheap and end up unhappy, but try to be smart and build this out over a two year period.

    Any good recommendations?

If you want to hear them at the end of the rope you need HLCD's. If you want those to sound good then you need to power at least to what they suggest, preferably more. I think Rev 8's need 200 watts. That totally blows trough your budget. Now that I have some I'd say wait and do it right next year, it gets really out of hand quickly so don't start until your prepared to do it right.

You can do it with the Kicker KMT6 or the new ones that replaced them and an amp that can put out about 150-175 wpc. You will hear them while boarding, best in between the wakes, not so great far in the flats, but in any event they will not sound as good or be as loud as HLCD's. I used KMT6 on my old 99 Air, and they worked, but I ended up purchasing Rev 8s and will ultimately sell my Kickers. But now I need more amp power, so it does become pricey for sure.
