Please advise with addition of amp and sub/speakers to stock 206

I have a 2005 model 206 with the stock xmd3 clarion and 4 of the polk speakers. I'd like to add a decent ($250.00 +or -) amp plus an 8 or 10 inch sub to compliment the system.

I'm thinking a 5 channel amp is the way to go, as I may eventually add a set of tower speakers. Will I get in trouble if I combine in parallel the polk 6" speakers, and only have a set of 4 ohm speakers on the tower?

I'm thinking something along the lines of a FUSION CADA51600 850W, or Alpine MRXV60, but am open to suggestions. We don't wakeboard, so its really for listening in the boat and while floating around.

I'm also open to sub suggestions, I'd like to locate it under the helm, with the amp mounted on a cutting board with fasteners epoxied to the observer side hull under the storage area.

A nice 4 channel amp is also an option. Wire the boat speakers to channels 1 and 2 then bridge the rear channels to the sub. I don't see any point in fading the inboats between the front and rear. If you do see the point in the fading then I would say you should go with a 5 channel. The Alpine PDX 5 (or 5M) is good but a bit on the expensive side. I run an Infinity Kappa 5 in my car, it works quite well and is a nice size for the boat. The JL M700/5 is also probably a good call but again a bit on the expensive side. For bargain basement you might consider the Crunch P1-5000.5?

On the 5 channel end, if you want to save space, the Alpine seems to be as small as I have seen for the price. The Infinity Mike mentions is a nice Amp. I have had the less powerful Infinity 5 channel in my boat and it has worked fine for 4 polks and an 8" polk MM sub under the bow. I'm not killing fish, but I can hear it. It sounds good, was inexpensive, and has been reliable.

Getting a sub in the kick panel should work unless you have or plan a heater in which case that area is probably the best spot for your core/fan. Our 206 had a board for the amps factory installed behind the carpet on the hull side under the observer seat, was able to fit (2) amps on it. If you plan on using an MP3 player as your primary music source you may want to consider a new deck or adding enough cable to bring your IPOD over to the helm side, something that also charges the IPOD would also be a bonus.
