    Bang & olufsen penta speakers

Just got these from my dad. I believe they are the penta 1. Anybody know how to hook these up? I don't have a receiver yet. I have a pair of pentas, a velodyne active sub, and that's it at the moment. David I'm lookin at you for answers.

Sorry, I haven't played with the B & O Penta speakers before. Is it totally passive, totally powered or a combination.

Btw, for a great old school two-channel receiver check out the Yamaha R-S300 and R-S700. Continuous loudness. True Hi Fi. Honest power specs. Both have a sub out jack but the 700 has a pre-out loop which may end up being handy.

Just an FYI...The Mel Gibson role in the movie Tequila Sunrise had a pair of B & O Pentas in the living room of his beach house. I happen to be watching that last night.

Thanks. I called b&o and they suggested a $3000 receiver. I just laughed. I'm looking at a denon 1912 or Yamaha rx617 I believe. I want 5.1 sound, but never messed with pre amps on a home setup and am kinda unsure which avr will work. The pentas were 4k back in 1990. Mind boggling to me. Also, you'll notice on some friends episodes that Monica's apartment has a b&o cd player.

Check audiogon.com if you are looking for high to mid-end used receivers/amps/pre-pros etc. If you do not need HDMI, you can score some very good pre/pros and amps over there for very reasonable prices.

Also, a good source of user reviews and information is my other favorite forum, avsforum.com. You can probably post your question over there, and like here, will get a lot of answers fairly quickly. There is a separate room for speakers and for amps / processors. Good luck.

David - you amaze me....and not many people do.

You also have too much "free time" if that is your entertainment.

Sorry david, i missed your question about power. Each speaker has its own 175w rms power supply along with sensitivity and line adjustments. my dad is taking care of getting me a proper receiver and a center channel. I believe I'll be running the pentas and velodyne sub off of the pre amps, and just hooking the center and surrounds off of the normal speaker outputs. I haven't had a 5.1 setup in forever and am very stoked. I can remeber being young and watching top gun and terminator with these speakers and just being amazed and deafened slightly; along with my dad.
