I have a 2011 SAN 210. When I purchased the boat I added the Roswell 7.0 airborne HLCD speakers. The boat was originally equipped with an Polk 250 amp for the tower. I had it upgraded to the pa500.4 to drive the 4 tower speakers. The new amp and speakers worked fine for a while but the I noticed that the tower speakers stopped working while the rest of the speakers worked fine. On the tower amp the Status LED light had turned red.
According the the Polk owners manual the Status LED—"Will illuminate GREEN to indicate the amplifier is on and operating normally, and will be illuminated RED if the amplifier shuts down due to short circuit, DC offset, or overheating detected by onboard protection circuitry"
I took the boat to my local dealer BUT wouldn't you know the amp magically started working again the day I took it in. The Dealer looked it over anyway, they did not find anthing wrong with the wiring or installation. They suggested that the problem was a result of weak batteries. They tested both my batteries and told my that my port 11.5 volt load tested to 60% and starboard 11.6 volt load tested at 55%. Also they said my batteries where only 650 MCA. They recommended that I run both batteries at the same time if I am playing the stereo with boat engine off. They also suggested if the problem recurred that I should up grade to new 900 MCA batteries. But at that time the amp was working so I put my battery selected switch on both batteries and went on my way.
Today while boat was running I noticed that the tower speakers where not working again and Status LED had turn from green to red again.
Before I run out and buy two new batteries for my boat has anyone else ever had this problem?
I am not convinced that the batteries are the problem for a couple reasons. First of all this most recent time that I noticed the problems the boat was running and I would expect that the alternator could generate enough power to run the amplifiers. Second it is the same Polk audio amp is giving me a problem, my other PA500.4 that runs the inboard speakers is identical to the amp for the tower and it is not giving me a problem. One would expect that these two identical amplifiers would behave similarly.
