Clarion CMD6 [Aux/iPod] Question

Hi All,

I have the same issue, I just purchased a new 2010 SAN 230. I am running the stock stereo and have tried two different ipods and two different iphones. I know i can used the 3.5mm just fine but it doesn't give me the ability to control my radio from my swim deck. Any info on how others are making this work.

I have turned on USB mode and had no success.

Have you tried a different USB device (not Apple) to make sure the USB connection is working (glove box USB connector)?

It is either the apple cable, the USB cable or the head unit (not likely, try your apple cable + your Iphone/Ipod on another head unit of a car or other boat).

I'm not sure for your head unit (mine is a CMD7, I assume yours is a CMD6), but there is a mode (on/off) to either use the controls on your Ipod/Iphone to play the music (ON) or the head unit (OFF). When the mode is on, you have to go in the music app and select the song/playlist on your device to start the music. The mode is called Ipod simple mode.

Hey All,

I fixed the issue, I was digging around and found some info on the USB adapter in the glove box being too long. I took an iPhone/iPod cable and plugged directly into the radio and was able to get it working. I am now going to get a shorter cable to replace my exiting and should be in action.

Can you run that fix by us again? Plugged directly into the radio: front or back side? What's the "too long" thing about?

Hey HS,

So, here is what I found. Out of the box I would plug an iPod/iPhone into my usb connector in the glovebox and I would get "No Media". So, talking with the dealer I got the response of "it should work". I started doing some research on the CMD6 which is in my boat and I found a few posts of people suggesting there was an issue with the usb connector used on certain boats. The posts stated that the cable was too long for the radio to register the idevices. Since the connector in the glovebox is just an extender off the radio I decided to eliminate that as a possible issue.

From here I went to the back of the radio and found where the USB extender plugged directly into the radio. I unplugged and used a standard white apple USB cable (same cable I was plugging into the glovebox). Once I did this the radio registered the iPhone/iPod and I was able to play music. Now, I can use Pandora and my iPods for music. I am able to control and see the song playing on my Linc.

I am now talking with the dealer and doing some more research on the Clarion options for this extender.
