    Running Wires Through the FCT

    Hi,

Going to be adding speakers and lights to my 94 Sport Nautique with a FCT. Any advice when running the wires up the FCT from someone who may have done it? I looked at a couple of Nautiques at the boatshow that had wires. When I have to come out of the lower leg and go around the pivot and back into the tubing they had some very nice rubber pieces to cover the holes. Any idea where to get these?

    Thanks
    Kevin

RE: Running Wires Through the FCT

Think the only way through the FCT is in the bottom, out middle, back in.... Word on the street is that this is best accomplished with string and a powerful vacuum. Drill holes, suck string through, tie on wire, pull through.....repeat.....

My dealer uses some type of braided line(you can color coordinate....or go bling....many options) and rubber grommets between the bottom and top brackets as well as fromt he bottom, into the deck. Personally I like the way Grant does not come out of the bottom of the tower and just takes the tower off and goes through the bottom. More labor intensive, but much cleaner.

See my tower wiring tutorial on wakeworld. I am too tired to re-do it hear maybe somebody else can copy and paste it here...

        Thanks for the replies.

To answer one of my own questions I found the rubber grommets at home depot that covers the hole.

I had not heard the string and vacuume idea. I will try that. Thinking of installing this weekend.

I also have an tower that has been added on. So there is no hole where the front of the tower meets the deck. Just fiberglass and a metal plate. So I have to go out the top of the hull and back into the lower tower leg. 2 extra holes to drill.

Mike - Nice job on your project. Looks great.

Kevin, I drilled and wired my FCT last summer. I took my tower off, took 10-15 min with 2 people. My front right leg has a hole in the bottom of it and so did the backing plate, all I had to do was put a little hole in the fibreglass, really easy. As far as getting the wire though, the shop-vac worked great with some thread and a little bit of paper tied on the end. Just be careful to have a nice large, soft area to work in, the FCT can be awkward to work with in tight quarters. I suggest not putting a hole in the tower so close to a high stress area, its way easier to put a hole in the backing plate. Good luck.

Just a sugestion for anyone trying, I used dental floss with a little tape like a flag on the end, the vac sucked it right through.

Now the vacuum idea w/ floss is one of the coolest ideas I've heard in a long time! Thanks!
