Help with XMD3 stereo remote problems.

I just received my boat back after installing a system. I added a Clarion EQS744 under my dash to help adjust the volume. I added 3 amps, 1 for the tower speakers, 1 for inside speakers, and 1 for the subs. I turn my deck volume at 25, and I adjust the vloume by the EQ. When I turn the EQ more than half way, the song either resets or goes to the next song, or it switches to AUX or CD changer. It's like an alien inside my remote. I unplug my remote and everyhtingworks fine.

RE: Help with XMD3 stereo remote problems.

I bet you're experiencing the remote wire needs better shielding problem. I'm sure someone will jump in with the specifics, but basically what happens is that with all the power running to your amps, some of it is interfering with the signal going through your remote cable, causing the strange problems you're seeing. Clarion has a better cable that they can sell you, or you can add some shielding to the cable yourself.
I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. We specializes in Nautiques and Correct Crafts, and also provide general service for Nautiques fifteen years old and older.

Thanks Jeff. Do you happen to know the part # or name of the thicker cable Clarion sells?

I wonder if electrical tape will work, or do I need that plastic black tube.
      Thanks for the help.

You need one with better rf/emi shielding, tape or tube won't make any difference.

Thanks Mike. Any idea on where I can pick some of that stuff up at?
We tried a new remote, and it did the same thing. We tried re-wiring the remote, and still the same thing. Running out of ideas. Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

Try some foil around the cable that is supspect.. if that works, then you can buy a better shielded cable.. foil isn't 100% the same as better shielding but it will show you some improvement if that really is the problem, and the test is free!

Just got off the phone with the shop. They think it is a bad remote. They said they plugged one in form an 04 Super Air, and they said it worked fine. Did the 04's have different remotes?

by the way, I just ordered the plugs and cable to make my own for the back. Hopefully I won't see the interference. I do see some interference in my rear perfect pass control display.

                        Timber,
I have the same problem. Clarion sent me a new remote cable it it did not fix the problem. The only thing that seems to help is to NOT loop the 15 extra feet of cable. I have it sort of looped, but they are very big loops, behind the kick board on the driver's side. My problem only happens for heavy bass songs, but consistently goes away of I unplug the remote. The guys at WCCC said they will try replacing the head unit next.

Sound like we have a problem that is becomming more visible...

                          UJ,
Do you have an aftermarket stereo or the team stereo?
I have been on the phone with clarion a lot lately. They tried telling me that I have digital amps, and they interfear with the digigtal signal of the remote. Well my amps are analog, not digital. I think next we are trying a new remote, and then shielding the cable. Please let me know if you find anything out.

Mikeski- Thank you for the offer. The stereo shop has extra remotes. I'm hoping they can get it solved there.

                            Timber,
Clarion also told me the problem was with my amps. I have thought about making my own shielded cable, but I want to try replacing the head unit first.

                              Ok:

In my boat. I have 2 orion XTR 2400 Amp's (1600 watts each) mounted lengthe wise real close to the remote cable's, (in fact the remote wire runs right on top of both amp's) If any amp would have the ability to change or offer interferance to the remote wire I would think these amp's would do it. I have never had a problem.

I have the oval remote at the dash and the round remote at the transome. The remote wire runs close to both amp's I have no additional shielding for my system. In fact I have all the extra cable looped up in a circle behind my drivers dash real close to the amp, and still no problem's.

Then there is Harolds SAN he has the same AMP's but his Amps are mounted not length wise like my'n but are stacked one on top of each other. His system started giving him the interferance problem we all havebeen talking about, he tryed diffrent remots Diffrent head units and nothing really fixed the problem. His interferiance problem would come and go . It was a intermittant problem. As soon as he would disconnect the rear remote the problem would go away. He took a 12 Awg wire and wrapped it around the rear remote cable and grounded it at both end's. He has not taken his boat out as of yett to see if its fixed. I hope its gone, And he has his cables looped in circles behind the drivers dash , ill have him try to re route his loop's
