Battery and amp mounting pics

Ok so I took over this boat and starting to go through it first thing is the battery terminals and connections. Does someone have a recommendation?
I used kicker terminals on my last boat but really wasn't satisfied because with the optimal they did not fit right... Secondly all over the boat the previous owner/ installer spliced all the amp power and ground wires to reach the amps and it all looks like a rats nest. So in the garage I go to straight'n it out.

For the battery in the top pic, I would convert the post style terminals to ring terminals using tinned brass lugs and solder the cables in with double-wall heat shrink with the sealer/adhesive in it to bridge the gap between the cable insulation and lug. For your 2nd battery pic, I would move some of those ground wires off of the post clamp pinch bolt and over to the battery's threaded stud, which is what its there for. Not a fan of splicing large gauge amp cable, so I would pull new ones, making sure they are the proper gauge for the amps with proper circuit protection at the source.

Does the larger battery box normally have an additional box it sits in ??

You would add them to the secondary post instead of a distribution box?? Is there's reason or is that just because its easier?

I was planning to pull new cable because spliced wires alwys seem to find a way to fail for me.

Those in-floor battery spots where intended for a group-24 battery and box. That battery in the 1st pic looks to be a group-31 Optima, which is much larger. I doubt you will get a box in there for that sized battery, but its not needed with a sealed battery. But a cover would be a good idea to cover the terminals.

Adding in a remote distribution block or post or BUSS bar would offer no advantage in your case, just add cable length. Those 3-4 smaller cables can be moved to the threaded stud with no issue at all. It is the easier fix, but also the correct one. This clamp bolts where not intended to have cable eyelets on them. It cab prevent the clamp from being properly tightened. This can lead to low voltage, under charged battery, arching and corrosion. Most marine batteries come with dual post options just for this reason.

*EDIT* My first post should read "tinned copper" not tinned brass. It was late and I think I had ballast on the brain.

Ok , thanks for the reply!! One other question on the Polk amp how do you get the cover plate off I started pulling and looking for a screw but where it's mounted it's hard to see jack in there... I stopped cuz I have a tendency to heman things till they snap.. Been looking online really didn't see a solid answer other than to remove it and re install it.
