My last boat speaker was wet sounds xs-650 in my boat 230 it was good but ....
I want more in my g23 no mather if it is car speakers! thanks for your help
Among the best in car speakers, you have to look at Focal and Hertz/Audison. The upper end JL Audio speakers sound good too. Morel and Dynaudio just don't have the sensitivity to work in a boat. In every top end speaker mentioned you are looking at complex crossovers with greater insertion losses and drivers that prioritize linearity over sensitivity. Output will be way down (although that would go un-noticed in a contained vehicle cabin) so they will require far more power. So in order to get the output in an open-field environment, you have to take lower sensitivity into consideration. The good news is that all these speakers use construction materials that will hold up decently in a fresh water area. None would work in salt water.
My question would be what type of power did you have in the last system running the XS-650? The XS-650 really come alive with 125 watts. Using a SYN-4 for example. So in looking at the pictures. I can see there was a lot on the tower but i didn't see enough power for all that you had. Power is one of the most important aspects when doing a system. This includes battery power as well. Speakers are what is heard and judged but I feel that power was the issue you had on the last system.
Second question is more what? More output? More mid bass? More highs? Most car audio speakers are voiced for a car door and not an open air environment. (think more reserved) My suggestion would be the XS-650 with the right power. Or if you really want more output and more mid bass. The XS-808 is an 8 inch speaker. It will offer a lot more output and mid bass. These would need some custom work to fit them but i don't think in the G23 it would be a problem as they have large grilles with the speakers mounted behind them. Plus with what you are showing for a car audio component speaker at $700. The US MSRP on the 808 is $399. That leaves $300 you were spending to custom mount them. I don't think it would cost that much
Feel free to send me an email twhite@wetsounds.com and i can get you in touch with our Canadian distributor. They dist Wet Sounds as well as Hertz/Audison as earmark mentioned so you can talk with them on what you are wanting and they can also help you out if you do want to go to a car speaker. They can work with you on getting a system that is designed the way you want and also possibly find you a dealer near by so you have some options locally. FYI, The AVI speakers you listed are 80 watts RMS compared to the XS-650 that are 100 watts rms and 125 watts on the 808. Also, they are less efficient.
on the g23 you are VERY limited in the stock mounting location. A 6.5 is a tight squeze. There seams to be a lot of room but there is not, without going a totaly custom install. I ran the kicker qs series in mine. I have always been a kicker fan and they fit in the factory location with no problems. Not sure with this helps, but just understand there it not a lot of extra room for a much larger speaker in the factory location.
