So the last boat that we removed all of the equipment out of for the new boat had a static sound on some songs off of iPhone. I have to say I was not happy with the last system and moved it to the boat hoping that changing to this boat with the 808s and 485s and 420 it would go away. Nope not the case. The only thing I can say that has not been swapped is the amps. Both arc audio. Alpine head unit was new in the last boat and the noise was there before we installed it. My question. Is could it be the amps? I have spent WAY too much money for it to sound like this. Any thoughts???

Never,
The Arc Audio amplifiers are no more or less likely to have a noise than any other amplifier.
It's curious that from your description the noise is only on some songs. If the noise is in both amplifiers then the odds of it being caused within the amplifiers would be extremely remote.
It could be system set-up & tuning, downloads, equalization, voltage, or any number of issues.
Is the noise related to any other occurance?
Is the noise timed to certain music demands?

Guys I think my wife figured it out. The input selector on the 420 was not all the way switched over from mic. It sounds better. I wish I knew more about how to describe the issue. It's only on some music and the only source we use is iPhones. Just sounds like it has static or distorted even at lower volumes.

Try using a 3.5mm jack instead of the dock and see if the sound changes. I used a dock once to charge my iPod while playing music. I had a hiss that was never there before and would go away if I pulled the charger out of the 12V source. I just chalked it up to power and audio being too close together in the dock connector causing audio noise. I always use a 3.5mm jack.
