Powder coating grills on wetsounds speakers?

Has anyone had the front grills on the wetsound speakers powder coated, or has anyone heard of anyone trying this? I want to get the grills on my boat to match my boat color I think it would look sick.

    z_mac20,
As far as I know you cannot powdercoat a plastic grill. In respect to the tower speakers, there are thin stainless steel accents on the newer versions but those make up a very small portion of the grill. You can get replacements for the stick-on S.S. accents if you do color the grills. This is going to be a paint process. First, you want to strip the plastic grill of the oils on the skin, then primer and paint just as you would a vehicle polymer bumper. Your local auto body paint and supply shop will have everything you need if you opt to do it yourself. If not, then take the grills and front bezels to a paint and body shop.
If painting the in-boat speakers it can be a bit more complex since the tweeter is mounted to the grill. This will require that you disassemble the grills from the speaker and clip the hardwired tweeter feed. And, you will probably have to mask off the tweeters and protective mesh as they are bonded to the grill.

Powder coating the speaker grills will melt the plastic parts. If you could get replacement SS inserts and have them coated before applying them to the grills that would work. Paint will do just fine though. I painted my Rev410s black. Just mask them off well, scuff with a Scotchhbrite pad, and spray with rattle can.

Like the others said, paint is the only way to go. Got a smoking deal on some Wetsounds MB-8's, but they were white. Had a local bodyshop paint them black for $50. He taped the speaker grill off because I wanted to keep the SS accents. The Wetsounds Pro 60's in pic were black from factory and you cannot tell any difference.
