another pita battery question thread 2008 210

starting battery on starboard side (which i think is position 2 on switch) tell me if i am wrong please, is fine.

but my stereo battery is not holding charge very well. time for new one probably. it charges fast and goes down fast. it is a deep cycle.

i am too darn cheap to get anything fancy but wet cell...but i am confused on deep cycle or not. everything i read says get deep cycle if not starting battery. but few people say not for one reason or another....i think deep cycle...

i guess i am too lazy to go measure: what is biggest battery i can get in standard hole? 24 is in there now. i am thinking a 27 would fit. what about a 31?

    other battery thoughts?

one more thing...is there any real point in using a battery box? think i could fit bigger battery without one...

With a wet cell lead acid, a tray at a minimum is recommended as the batteries can leak and sweat. A box with a cover is good to have to cover the terminals when the battery is located in a high traffic area. You dont want something metallic to get set across the battery top. So with your batteries recessed in the floor, a group-24 in a box is about it. Depending on your stereo is wired and how you use the stereo, you may consider a dual-purpose marine battery.
