'04 To '05 Speaker Cover Change

I have the '04 Kicker speaker covers and frankly they really suck. Our lake can get rough at times, but not too rough for the boat to handle. The hard plastic is very weak and from people leaning near them in the bow they are all dented now and don't look good at all. Also, both the speaker covers in the bow have popped off and one time a cover popped off and out of the boat and it is now at the bottom of the lake waiting to erode. Even the speaker cover for the speaker in the footwell has popped off.

The '05 Polk Momo speaker covers look much better and much stronger. Is it possible to get the '05 Polk Momo speaker covers on the '04 Kicker speakers??? I don't want to have to keep buying new cover speakers all summer that keep getting dented.

    RE:

AbunDiga, I think the Momo speakers have four screws that hold the grill to the speaker and then to the pod. The screws go all the way from the grill to the back supporting the speaker in between. Assuming that the holes on the grill of the Momo's line up with the holes of your speakers (they should as the hole location is probably standard), you should be able to use these instead.

I don't know if the speaker for this other design has something special to fit the grill though.

Does Polk sell replacement grills for these speakers?

I'd imagine we can just get any cover through the dealer. They've already gotten a couple Kicker ones for us.

let me know what you find out. I would like to change them out as well, and then add the polk grills to my tower, so they all match. I actually replaced all of my 04 kicker covers directly from Kicker, they were like 2.50 each, but they fade out fast. They did mention that I got all they had at the time.

I took a look at the speakers on the boat this weekend. First off, the speaker cover was off naturally so I found out that the way the Kicker covers go in is w/o any screws. Its one of those push in and then twist to lock it. But when the speaker was off, I saw 3 screws that looked like they held the speaker in. I don't know if I still can or cannot get the new Polk covers.

Abundiga, the Polk covers have 4 screws instead of 3, which is what you have on your speakers. I realized this after I had posted my previous response but have not had a chance to log in. If you want to use the Polk covers you will have to drill more holes on your speakers and also on your speaker pod.

The 3 screws you have now are at 120 degrees whereas the screws for the Polk are at 90 degrees. You will only be able to use 1 of the 3 holes you have and will have to drill 3 more.

****... that not really what I wanted to hear... it's almost not worth it now. I saw how small those screws were and though of all the ways I could really mess things up. :???:

If you do decide to go this route, make sure you get the proper grills. I only knew of the ones that come with the tweeter in the center but there seem to also be grills for a speaker with separate tweeters.

Alright, thanks a lot TwinTip... I'll keep it in mind if I ever feel like getting around to it. BTW, does anyone know of any other cool aftermarket grills that use 3 screws at 120 degrees just to solve my problem? If they are cool, in my price range, and won't pop out or get dented like the Kicker one's, I'd consider it.

You could buy a pair on ebay. They usually run a 100 a set.
