    2009 230 Sante

Audio project. I have 6 in boat Polk audio speakers, 4 cans on the tower, the not so much infinite baffle 10" Polk sub behind driver on starboard wall, and two Polk audio amps. Has anyone tried putting 1 or 2 shallow 12" subs underneath the driver dash? Does the JL 10" sub make a great deal of difference? I would like to add the WS420 EQ. What else can be changed or added to get a better system from what I got? Would changing the wiring from the in boat speakers to one amp, and tower speakers to the other, then adding a third amp for the sub be a good idea? Thanks for any ideas.

I just went though this last week actually. I ordered the JL 10 IB it was much better than the polk with bass output, but I really wanted more. I added a speaker box by the amps between the garbage can and the wall with a JL 12w6 and it has tons of bass. You can look on the JL site for dimensions for the recommended box size. The sealed box fits perfect and does't take a ton of room. You will need a way for the bass to get out what I did was take off the garbage can door and cut a hole that was like 5 x 10 inches and used stainless wire mesh. Lowes had some stainless mesh for BBQ's in the hardware section and it worked great. Btw if you go this route make sure to use blue tape to cover both sides of the plastic for the garbage can that way it won't scratch it when cutting. Worst case if you don't like it you can get a new garbage door. I can post some pics tomorrow if interested.

    Hope this helps.

Some more info since i am on a Mac now and not my phone.
I have a 2009 230 with a FCT3 tower and Z5 rack my boat was prewired for tower speakers and had 2 Polk amps a 4x500 ( 6 internal 6 inch speakers ) and the 250.2 amp for the tower speaker in it. What i did was by bought 4 Wetsounds Rev 10's ( you can get 10% if you do a search in the forum ) for the tower which sound really good and i bought a ARC 600.2 amp just for the tower speakers. The Polk 250.2 i used in bridged mode so i could get the whole 250 watts out of it to power the 10 inch sub. Which use to be the Polk 10 which i replaced it with the JL 10 IB big difference.
The JL 12W6 made a huge difference i bought another amp to power the JL 12W6 with a 500 watt amp since it works in the 300 - 650 watt range. Another thing you should be is to run 1 or 0 awg gauge wire from the perko to the AMP board this way you have a good power and ground source. The wiring they do for the stock stereo is marginal with the power feeds.

      Hope this helps.

Also keeps the amps cool in hotter weather it gets pretty hot up in Sacramento area. I might even put a small 12 volt fan from a PC in there to move the air around.

Thanks Dave, interesting. I dont have that door there, I have the air dam door. I am thinking an enclosure on angle underneath the driver seat for a twelve. I'll post pics when it's done.
