Clarion MW1 on SANTE 230 Transome

Wanting to install a second stereo remote to be able to turn up the music while hanging out in the water with out getting in the boat. Has anyone installed a Clarion MW 1 remote on the Transom of a Nautique 230 ? Looking for some examples of placement and any recommendations.

Unit I am looking at http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001Q3M0QC

I went with the hand held remote. Didn't feel comfortable drilling a 3 inch hole into my boat, and all the reviews about the hard wired installed remotes failing scared me. So, far the MF1 has been working great and I have no issues. I just use a lanyard on teh handle to get in and out of the back of the boat and it works great - took only 2 minutes to install as well.

Does anyone have pictures of one of the MW1 remote installed from the factory ? Really wanted to see where they placed it to get some idea's. The wireless one might be a option, but really wanted something fixed mounted so the remote doesn't get lost.

I put one on the 08 210 we had. It's not hard to do. The best advice I can give is to mask the area with blue painters tape, mark your center point, and then start drilling. Spin the hole saw backwards until you get through the gel coat. Then spin the saw the normal direction and use really light pressure to cut through the fiberglass slowly. That will give you the best chance at no cracks and a clean hole.

The Nautique website has a couple pictures of the transom remote on the green 13 230.

Better yet, install the Mal-brec bluetooth device into the input of the head unit, and use your iphone as the remote for changing songs and volume. No hole cutting required.

iPhones and water don't get along.

That's true, but who wants to swim around with their phone just to change the song on the radio.

I did that exact thing in my 230 - that I sold

It worked great for the three years I had it.... Just under the rub rail on the port side if I remember right. I also ran a separate mini plug to plug in the Iphone (playlists) mounted in the little tray just inside the port side small rear flip up door.
