    Speaker install on 1999 Ski

I'm finally breaking down and installing a stereo in my boat. I bought the Polk db651s. Shoukd I cut the fiberglass or will the speaker fit without doing so. I have cut the upholstery and placed the speaker in. If I don't cut the fiberglass , it looksike it will push the speaker out a bit.

If its just a small gap you could make or buy a trim ring to sit behind it, or if your interested it would be a good time to add a LED ring behind the speakers if that will make up the difference. Otherwise if you want the speaker to sit more flush and your up to it you could trim the edge back a bit. Some pictures would help though...

I wouldn't just tighten the speakers down and call it a day if the mounting flange of the speaker isn't flush with the mounting surface, thats just asking for problems. You don't want the screws to pull out or put excess pressure on the edges of an opening in the fiberglass. Also if the fit is poor enough and you allow the sound coming off the back of the speaker to 'leak' out it will either cancel out the the sound waves coming from the front or cause a delayed echo which will cause the mid bass frequencies to sound bad.
