I washed the interior of my boat, and now the stereo will not turn on. I mean not power period. I have briefly checked the 1A fuse on the back side of the stereo...that was good. Where doe sth stereo get the main 12 Vdc from? I have checked the circuit breaker in the driver foot backrest. How is the main power supplied to the stereo?

I have trouble shot the stereo system, and I think the stereo unit has failed. This is the stock stereo sysytem with the remote. So do I get this unit fixed, or replace it with a new unit? And what new units come with a remote access panel? I like the driver having access to the stereo using the remote, so I would want to keep that capibility.
So what are my options??
Which new units come with the remote accessory?
Where would I get this stock unit fixed? Just any car stereo shop? Or what?

Maybe there was once a time when you could find an electronics shop in a most major cities that could do that kind of repair, maybe the skill even existed at stereo shops. If your lucky and that kind of skill still exists near you and its repairable and they could fix it for a 50 bucks or less then maybe it makes sense. If it was under warranty maybe send it back to the manufacturer but these days they likely just send you a new one and if they do fix the the existing one it gets resold as refurbished. Depends on who makes it. At 8-9 years old I probably just bin it and get a new one if you have already determined its getting power and everything else works.
Options? Clarion, Kenwood, Sony, Alpine; they all make marine radios and also remotes you could use. If you already have a remote, and you can still get a head unit from the original manufacturer that fits and can use the remote you have then you could go that route. If you already have a hole for a remote look for one that can fit that hole then work back to the head units that can work with that remote. A quick search online should yield you a ton of options. I like Crutchfield, Sonicelectronix, and Earmark (they offer a discount to Planetnautique members) to start with and you could always expand your search once you find something you like although I usually like to buy from a reputable source and if you can find it local and get the service and support (like installation if you need it) then go that route if it makes sense.
Depending on what size head unit you need to fill the space and what brand you go with you could be 300-400 range on the low end for new. You could even get one with bluetooth built in. Another option to consider is don't bother with a head unit. If you don't play CD's or use AM/FM (I don't, its always a phone/mp3 player) then really all you need is a way to control volume and get the signal to the head unit. You could use a bluetooth volume control like the new one from wet sounds with an adapter to RCA, or the old school 3.5 input with the volume control, or for more control or in addition use one of the EQ's from Exile or Wet Sounds etc, that have volume controls and inputs and put it near the driver.
I just got the wet sounds WW-BT-VC Bluetooth Volume Control through Earmark and it pretty much makes my head unit obsolete, my signal still runs through it but in reality I don't need it other than the fact I can plug a usb stick in and fight with it if all the mp3 players are dead. If it was just a hair faster on turning the volume up and down it would be perfect, but I can pause and restart playback so it gets the job done instantly and you can flush mount it even without the silver trim ring so its nearly invisible when not lit up.
