I'm in the market to replace my existing stereo and ran across 2 sets of NVS Prodigy tower speakers. First of all, would anyone have concerns buying NVS given that they are out of business? Secondly, assuming they are a good buy, how is $1000 for a pair? Seems like they would be a great setup. Thanks.

Well i don't think anyone is gong to give you bad feedback on them, they sound and perform amazing.
i will never forget the first Time I heard them, July 4 2010. I had just got a pair of Pro80s and I thought I had I all figured out. This guy floats up to Lake Anna sandbar and cranks Lee Greenwood's Proud to be an American and it was amazing. 20 boats across the sandbar playing assorted music, he completely shuts them down and drowned them all out. Full rang, loud and balanced sound.
only consideration would size and power. They are huge, hope you aren't trying to have a sleek tower setup.
power- they are like 750w RMS each right? What's the impedance per pod? To do that right isn't gonna be cheap on amps.... That begs upgrades in batteries, onboard charger etc.
but yes Sir those will certainly project clear balanced loud sound.2019 G23 450

I have run a pair of NVS Tyrants for several years with a single Blue top without issue, did not want the added weight of a second battery. You do need to keep a good charge on it or your sound quality will suffer. NVS are excellent speakers, very loud and super clear overall sound quality. Inspect the cones or whatever you call the speaker material carefully as that is usually where they will fail first.
The only negative I could say about them is without the quick releases they are time consuming to put up/take down, 16 Allen bolts if they have the double mounts. I added the qr since mine come off when slaloming or whenever we are done for the day and of course whenever it is trailered. Great speakers and good luck with the purchase.

The speakers are big however fit between the bimini and the tower just fine, if you have no bimini or one of those over the top type the speakers could be head bangers. Have found guests who are not regulars are more apt to bang their head on the speakers when the bimini is not up then the bimini which is actually lower then the speakers.
Prodigy's are wider but the depth should be the same.
This pic was before I added the quick release so they are 3/4" lower then that now.

Only other consideration I would offer for you to consider would be head bumping.
If you are able to walk upright from stern to bow, and over 5'8" or so you will bump your head.
For some folks its not a problem....but also consider your guests. I think I have a permanent dent in my skull from MC JL tower speakers. They even have sharper edges.
So now a primary consideration for me, equally important as capability and sound quality, is to have them tucked in tight up in the corners so I would never have the possibililty of hitting heads. Those will pretty much take up the entire tower from left to right... and they are long front to back, so thats a lot of opportunity to bang head FYI. Would not fly on my boat.2019 G23 450

Thanks everyone for the responses. @ Quinner - I have the same boat/tower as you. Any issues with clearance with your quick release? This unit is being sold with QR. What amps did you use to push your speakers? Also, where did you get that graphic on the side?

No the quick release was no problem, the speaker is just a bit closer to the Bimini. Graphics are just as I ordered it, factory original, did change the black pinstripe tape to silver metallic though. Do not remember the exact amp, mikeski from this forum turned me on to it, was a great price and around 850w iirc. Was able to mount the amp just above the factory amp using the same backboard. If you have any other questions on the install ask away, spent more time planning then on the install itself.

It's always nice to take a listen before you purchase. And here is why in the case of the NVS. NVS has been all over the map in their sound signature depending on where in the evolution of passive crossovers you find a particular model. There were some substantial changes over the years. The most recent models certainly sounded the best and sounded very good in my opinion. Perfect for near-field and not quite aggressive enough for wake range with serious noise competition. But I personally preferred the way the latest models were voiced. They definitely do require BIG power to perform to potential.

Ok, I think I'm down to: PAIR of NVS Deviants ($450 for the pair), NVS Prodigy ($1000 for a PAIR), and WS Pro485 ($600). What's the best deal? Should I consider the cost of amps too? From what I've read the pairs of NVS speakers will require at least 2 500w amps vs 350-400w for the 485? That's a big cost difference. Worth it?

ramter,
Need to now the specs of the NVS
so for the 485s- its 300RMS, at 4ohms (from their manual, but we know they'll take 450)
Can you provide that^^ for the other 2 you are considering? it"ll help matching up amps correctly. It may not be as bad as you think. How choosey and price sensitive are you on amps? F150 with cloth seats fine? Or do you want the Platinum/Denali version?2019 G23 450

I honestly don't know the specs on the NVS. Searching online, it seems like most NVS owners are pushing upwards of 500w to those speakers, with some claiming up to 700w to each pair @4ohms. As far as choosy, I'm going to be more selective on the speakers than on the amps because I'm likely to sell my boat at the end of the season and would like to take certain components. I'm not that interested in disconnecting amps, subs, etc during this process, but disconnecting a set of tower speakers isn't bad. So to use your analogy, I'm going for the F150 QUAD CAB, with a nice set of wheels (that will be taken off when I sell).

Ok, 3 recs, all class D to reduce heat and be a little more efficient, you'll need that this is a lot of power being pulled:
Upper middle rec: Use two Arc Audio 300.2s. $350 ea. 700w x1 at 4ohms. $700
High end rec: Use two Syn2s, same specs^^^, folks say identical amps, but Syns are "marinized". $550 each, $1100.
Budget rec: Precision Power PPI 600.2 does 600w x 1 at 4ohms. Most likely it's 500-550w. Lots of haters, dealers hate them, lots of minutia as to why they suck, but ask folks who have actually used them and most would say they are "B" level amps or better. $137ea at sonic electronix. Definitely gets you in the ballpark for $260.
